Closing a card..what impact will it have?

OK.  I was rebuilding.  Pretty much NO cards in my name...spilt from the wife and had to start over.  So I got a Cap 1, and a CreditOne and and Ollo.  Score was low 600s.  Gardened for 2 years and waiting for a CO to fall off my report and made all my payments...also got a Temurpedic Bed from a furniture store on their credit card...paid off in 6 months to not pay interest.  Score was high 700s and got Apple Card.  Cap 1 went from $800 CLI to $2500 (and stalled, bucketed I assume).  Ollo went from $800 to $2100.  Apple went from $3500 to $13000.  ALso got a SoFi at $10500, Amex Blue Cash Preferred at $1000.  Credit One went from $300 to $500.  They sent me a 2nd card that has $0 AF and that is $800.  Score is now 802.  It looks like my orignal CreditOne with a $500 limit has a $99 AF.  So I am gonna close that one...What effect will that have?  My Utilization will go up slightly...I am under 1% now so it shouldnt go up much at all.  AAoA?  Will that be effected?  Will having a closed account on my report effect my score any?

Re: Closing a card..what impact will it have?

Update.

i called creditone and first asked for a annual fee waiver or to move my credit card to a no af product.  For kicks i did the automated CLI increase and was denied because activity was too low.  The customer service rep informed me he couldnt do anything about the fee.  Its $9 a month so $100 a year.  For a card that has a $500 limit.  He looked up the other card and its a $39 annual fee.  So I told him to cancel my card.  He said let me get you to that department. A very nice woman got on the line.  I informed her i wasnt going to keep a $500 CL card with $100 a year in fees.  Cancel me.  CL too low and fees to high.  She said well. Let me waive the fees.  Lower the interest rate and raise your limit.  You can just keep it and not use it because it wont cost you anything.  She upped the CL to $700 (still pitiful) but said because of my perfect history she would initiate a manual review and that may get them to raise it more.  I then said what about the other account?   Same.  Fee refunded because its a one time fee, interest rate lowered from 29 to 17 and CL raised from $800 to $1000.  Not ideal but now the cards cost me nothing to keep and the limits are going up.  Even if slightly.

Excellent! And good for you handling it the way you did.

I know they're still low limits, but cards are cards--as long as there are no fees! Smiley Happy

Re: Closing a card..what impact will it have?

I appreciate what she did for you, but, personally, I'd close it anyway. It will not affect your utilization enough to matter and it will not affect your account ages for about ten years, and probably won't matter by then since your other cards will also be a lot older. It's not a card with any actual use, even if the limit wasn't so low, which it is.

That said, keeping it open won't really hurt anything if the AF is waived, so ... no big deal either way, I guess. But I would close it to simplify my life. JMO.

FICO Resilience Index: 64. Cards: 5/24, 2/12, 2/6. Accounts including loans: 8/24, 4/12, 3/6. Card CLs total $213,900, or $240,400 including the AU card. Cards (oldest to newest)

Sounds like they actually were pretty flexible with keeping your business by waiving  the AFs + the CLIs. You can always revisit things 12 months from now and decide if you still want to keep them or close them (i.e. no additional offers). Since you already went through taking the time to call them, I'd keep them open and perhaps place some activity.

Re: Closing a card..what impact will it have?

I use them for gas and odds and ends.  Small online purchases.  Maybe $200 a month.  Always pay in full.

Re: Closing a card..what impact will it have?

Are these changes indefinite?  I was in a similar situation and they offered me the same but for 6 months.  I closed it after that trial period.

They said 6 months until while they review the accounts for permanent updates.
