Combining CapOne Plat and QS concerns

I want to combine my CapOne QS $4500 CL and my platinum card $2000 w/af of $39.00 .  Keeping the QS of course I just don't use the plat card at all.  Is there anything about combining these cards that may be harmful to my scores?  they are close in age both over 2yrs and only 6 mos apart. Planning on getting new car loan in Aug. and don't want to have to recover from any unnecessary point drains before then.

Thanks for your advice and experiences with this.

There will be no harm for two reasons: you aren't losing any available credit because the one remaining open card will have the same limit as your two cards previously had separately and the closed card will continue to report for up to ten years which will help your Average Age of Account (AAoA).

Nope. Combine away. I did the same thing. It actually helped with higher approvals in the future for me, but at the time the combined limit was my highest. Not sure what your situation it.

Re: Combining CapOne Plat and QS concerns

Were you able to combine OP?

I have the QS and QS1 and "due" for a CLI in February (though I'm going to wait until March's statement cuts if it isn't auto CLI before then). But I want to combine them into one QS.

Capital One Savor: $6,000; PenFed Power Cash Rewards: $3,500; PenFed Gold: $2,500; Capital One: $2,500; Mission Lane: $2.500; Credit One: $2,000; Nordstrom Visa: $2,000;
Store Cards: Kohl's $2,500; Home Depot: $1,000; Target: $900; LOFT: $700; Amazon: $350

Re: Combining CapOne Plat and QS concerns

I combined my QS and plat cards this morning!!!  My QS is now $6500.  Now that this useless Cap Plat card is gone I can get another "big boy card"   Combined on website and took 2 mins. Just remember the one you want to close must have a zero balance and no pending transactions. They are just combing CL's not balances and cl's    Smiley Very Happy

Re: Combining CapOne Plat and QS concerns

I ended up combining mine. I messed up though and didn't pay attention and combined them to the QS1. So now I'll have an annual fee this month. Smiley Sad

But, I had planned on doing it anyway and later applying for another card. I've read several times that it's hard to climb far with CO when you start out low. So in the next few months I hope to app for a new QS and later combine the new QS and old QS1.

Have you tried to call in and ask them to waive the AF? Sometimes it works Smiley Happy
