Combining Card

when you combined two cards, do you lose the history and what is the point of combining cards?

Re: Combining Card

You will eventually lose the history in 10 years. But it remains on the CR for that long.

The point of combining is everything from getting a higher credit limit on the remaining card, to having one less cc to keep track of.

I combined 2 Cap1 cards last October, and glad I did. Plus they are still reporting the card I merged into the other as still open, $0 balance. So it's still factored into the utils calculation.

I wish I could combine my Providian/WaMu card into the new WaMu card, but they tell me they do not combine cards. Smiley Sad

Re: Combining Card

I just got off a mini-combo spree, combining 5 cards into 3.

And at least with BofA, they said it takes about two billing cycles for the combination to be 'complete', although the CRA reports already reflect the increased combined credit line and the closure of the younger cards.

Re: Combining Card

I have two Cap 1 cards, I just opened one this month and they gave me a CL of 500. My second card was open in 2005 and the CL is 1000. If I combine both cards, Do I lose the history?

Re: Combining Card

The history remains on card that you "closed" for 10 years. You retain the continuing history on the other card until 10 years after you close it, as well.

No.   I combined my two Citi CCs right after I got my new one about 2 months a go.  The oldest CC was a little over 2 yrs, and more CL than new one.  My closed CC acct information still shows on my CR ... like Sylvia said.
