Combining Citi Cards

The first credit card I received was the Citi Platinum Select for College Students. Stupid me didn't really know anything about the mtvU card and all the benefits it contains.

So I just applied for that this past week. A few days later the application status phone number said I am approved. I *still* haven't received the email that says I'm approved and when I try to login to that credit account a general error pops up. How long does it take for them to send out the approval email? And do they tell you the CL in the email?

Anyways, getting to the original point of this topic... should I combine the two cards? And IF I do, will I lose the age of the first credit card? So in other words, will they "convert" my old Platinum Select card to an mtvU card and combine the limits so I retain the age?

Thanks so much! Smiley Happy

Re: Combining Citi Cards

they will likely combine, but the history will be seperate. if you keep the new one, then that's the history you inherit.

Re: Combining Citi Cards

Thanks for the reply.

I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. I guess I'll just keep both cards separate... I can't lose that first card's history!

Re: Combining Citi Cards

well you really lose the history after up to 10 years. there's a closing cc's thread in fused sig, try a quick search for it then decide.

Re: Combining Citi Cards

Ohh, okay. Thanks for the clarification. I'll talk it over with the CSR when I call to activate the card whenever I get it.

Re: Combining Citi Cards

Let us know how it goes when you call to combine. I have the regular Citi Platinum Select and the mtvU card as well, and I want to combine mine.

I didn't receive an email after I was approved for the mtvU. I think I received it about two weeks after I apped online.
