Combining cards with Capital 1?

I had the platinum card from when I was in college, $5500 limit. I just did a PC to the quicksilver yesterday, but I also have a Cap1 Journey with a $3k limit and was wondering if there is any benefit to combining those cards into one quicksilver? I usually only use the Journey for my 5yr old sons Easykicks shoe sub, netflix and DSC. So maybe $40 a month, PIF always. The platinum is/was rarely used because no rewards. Would it make sense to combine them now that I'll get cash back? How would this effect my AAoA? Journey is my 2nd oldest card at 4 yrs. Any infor/advice is appreciated!

Re: Combining cards with Capital 1?

You can combine the cards easily right through the Cap1 online portal. I believe if you go to settings (or something of that sort, there's an option there for consolidating cards). Since the platinum isn't really useful (I combined my QS and Platinum as well recently), I would combine them. I would first move the charges to the QS and then I would combine.

Good luck!

How would that effect my AAoA? I'd much rather have one $8500 limit than 2 cards with separate limits, but worried about that taking a hit.

Apparently a closed card will still show up on your report for 10 years after. Therefore it would have no ill effect on your average age.

Re: Combining cards with Capital 1?

I would not bother unless you need more than 5k credit line often or you just do not want 2 cards.

Good problem to have.
