Comenity CC question

Well let me start off by saying I have quite a few credit cards BUT not a single one from Comenity. They send me offers but based on those offers they appear to be a sub prime lender. I could be wrong I do not know anything about them. I have CC's for 42 years and somehow never did apply for a card from them. I am in the garden but they sent me an offer for a store card that I am really interested in.

1)  Do I need this card or just use my MC, Visa or AX card in that store?

2)  Are they a sub prime lender? I stay clear of those, unless I am tricked by some fancy mailer.

3)  I am in the garden is it worth a HP?

4)  What are their SL's??? my FICO average around 780

5)  I have a 7 figure income so by showing that do they want a 4506? I have done a 4506 with Discover and a few others but they are not sub prime cards.

6)  Do they charge an AF? I stay clear of those as well. Unless they hide the fact in the offer. Aspiration ZERO is a good example, they hit me for a $60 AF, My Luxury Card I knew up front is a $195 AF but I am ok with that. I just don't like to be tricked into something.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Mark

Re: Comenity CC question

@Anonymous

I used to have the Express store card when I was rebuilding. IME they were like any prime banks I deal with, no tricks, payments & automatic set ups went smoothly. They closed my account for inactivity after 1 year and unlike Syncro, Commenity sent me a letter informing me of a time window to use the card which I ignored.

If you see a benefit on getting the card, don't worry, they're legit.

forgot to mention:

I applied in the store app and no hp was done. I came to learn after sometime that it's what we call the kart trick.

Re: Comenity CC question

Almost all lenders have some sorta sub prime lending going on . If you are worried about the status of it or something , they all give out cards to people not as far along as you in the journey.  Even the big boys . They offer a normal card and co branded . They even have bank accounts.   Nothing sneaky or under handed they can be a bit goofy at times but they focus on co branded and their one non co branded card.  But I don't know if they have an annual fees on any cards . I have never had an issue with them .

Re: Comenity CC question

In general the store cards have no af. If you want to avoid an hp then by all means use one of your exsisting cards for purchases in those stores.

Re: Comenity CC question

@Anonymous which store card offer are you referring to?

Sometimes you can pick up their cards with sct...saving a hp. Ymmv.

Some of their sc offer promo financing ...saving interest above a certain purchase amt. each and every time you choose to do so, which saves additional future hp's when seeking promo's.

Comenity cards grow PDQ.... sometimes upon card/online activation/set up.

Depending on the card and depending on your wants and needs they can be beneficial.

I was looking for the "Big Lots" card. They sell really good laundry detergent very cheap. I run a lot of wash loads due to the fact my dog had puppies, and they are in a childs play pen and too young to go outside yet. So I must change their sheet like a dozen times a day or more. But it is a Comenity card. Like I said I just have no experience with that bank at all, Citi, WF, Chase and many more sure, but somehow this bank flew under the radar LOLSmiley Indifferent

Thanks

80 cards and you're getting another one for cheap laundry detergent?

Re: Comenity CC question

@Anonymous sounds like a temporary need and probably not one that would qualify for promo either...I'd skip.

Just a search on their website didn't show where Comenity offered a set purchase amt. to qualify for one, only that you MAY be offered a promo at the register.  The apr is extremely high.

Imo, I'd use one of your cc's with a decent apr over this sc.

1)  Do I need this card or just use my MC, Visa or AX card in that store? Couldn't you purchase cheap laundry detergent using your V/MC/D/AX? Anything in Big Lots you can obtain elsewhere without having the Big Lots CC.

2)  Are they a sub prime lender? I stay clear of those, unless I am tricked by some fancy mailer.

3)  I am in the garden is it worth a HP? If you claim to be in the garden, why risk a HP for the Big Lots retail card? Comenity isn't going to approve a $20,000 SL Big Lots CC out of the gate.  It doesn't sound like you want to stay in the garden.

4)  What are their SL's??? my FICO average around 780. They start around $250, IIRC.

5)  I have a 7 figure income so by showing that do they want a 4506? I have done a 4506 with Discover and a few others but they are not sub prime cards.  With 7-figure income, why not use one of the 70+ CCs (or debit cards) and earn points?  Bank of America sometimes has 10% cashback offers in their portal for specific merchants that includes Big Lots.

6)  Do they charge an AF? I stay clear of those as well. Unless they hide the fact in the offer. Aspiration ZERO is a good example, they hit me for a $60 AF Aspiration ZERO did not 'hit' you with a $60 AF. It was clearly stated in the program rules during the application process, you likely forgot or bypassed the T&Cs when the application wasn't approved right away. My Luxury Card I knew up front is a $195 AF but I am ok with that. I just don't like to be tricked into something.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok, so this sounds like a rhetorical question because it almost appears like you want the Big Lots card? 🤔
