@Anonymous wrote:Well let me start off by saying I have quite a few credit cards BUT not a single one from Comenity. They send me offers but based on those offers they appear to be a sub prime lender. I could be wrong I do not know anything about them. I have CC's for 42 years and somehow never did apply for a card from them. I am in the garden but they sent me an offer for a store card that I am really interested in.
1) Do I need this card or just use my MC, Visa or AX card in that store? Couldn't you purchase cheap laundry detergent using your V/MC/D/AX? Anything in Big Lots you can obtain elsewhere without having the Big Lots CC.
2) Are they a sub prime lender? I stay clear of those, unless I am tricked by some fancy mailer.
3) I am in the garden is it worth a HP? If you claim to be in the garden, why risk a HP for the Big Lots retail card? Comenity isn't going to approve a $20,000 SL Big Lots CC out of the gate. It doesn't sound like you want to stay in the garden.
4) What are their SL's??? my FICO average around 780. They start around $250, IIRC.
5) I have a 7 figure income so by showing that do they want a 4506? I have done a 4506 with Discover and a few others but they are not sub prime cards. With 7-figure income, why not use one of the 70+ CCs (or debit cards) and earn points? Bank of America sometimes has 10% cashback offers in their portal for specific merchants that includes Big Lots.
6) Do they charge an AF? I stay clear of those as well. Unless they hide the fact in the offer. Aspiration ZERO is a good example, they hit me for a $60 AF Aspiration ZERO did not 'hit' you with a $60 AF. It was clearly stated in the program rules during the application process, you likely forgot or bypassed the T&Cs when the application wasn't approved right away. My Luxury Card I knew up front is a $195 AF but I am ok with that. I just don't like to be tricked into something.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
Mark
Ok, so this sounds like a rhetorical question because it almost appears like you want the Big Lots card? 🤔
Well OK its not worth leaving the garden for a new card that has a low CL. I am going today to buy the weeks supply of laundry detergent. The WF Propel AX is out of my rotation today. The Aspiration card is out of rotation too today. I never used that one yet. Time to break it in. Well I liked the Big Lots card it is orange LOL, the only other orange card I have is Home Depot but I think that has a $15,000 CL, well it is a Citi card so they give me higher lines LOL
I am staying in the garden and will use whatever card is out of rotation for that day. Hard decision the Propel or Aspiration ZERO. I am off to Big Lots. It was tempting but maybe in two years. I don need a low SL card for sure
Thanks
Mark
I have no issues with Comenity.
They specialize in store cards but I only have had their V/MC.
Recently they closed the Virgin Airlines card which was my first Comenity card.
I have the Sportsman Guide VISA and Caesar's Total Rewards VISA with high SL.
No interest as I PIF.
FWIW, @Anonymous, I wouldn't bother with the Big Lots card. Considering your collection of great cards, why add a store card?! You can easily use your major CCs for purchases at Big Lots, right? So why bother?
I have a few Comenity cards, all of which I got when my credit was not as good as it is now (mid-700s then), and while I don't have any real complaints about them, I also don't have a lot of compliments. They're very limited as to where you can use them, their APRs are really high (although I never carry a balance on them, so it doesn't matter), CLIs are few and far between, and if I had it to do over again, I don't think I'd bother with them.
My vote is..... NO!!

OK, this credit card thing is just a hobby for me. Having only one orange card (Home Depot) I thought it would be nice to have another. That is why I do not want cards with an AF. I dont need half of my cards, they are in rotation so they all get used but I really have too many. AND I need 2% utilization to report to the bureaus so the more CL that I have the more I have to let report every month to keep up the 2%.
OK so I will do without another orange card for the next two years unless something really special comes out in orange LOL
Thanks

I am sure better things will come out in less than 24 months; but if you're into collecting cards 🤷♂️ and want to keep the fun. It's not like you need credit anyway I assume. I enjoy this hobby but I do need credit; my decisions won't suit your needs/wants.
One other thing to remember in big lots, join the big lots club and you will get more savings and if you are a vet and you show your vic at the register you get another 10 percent off on top of the savings.

Yeah I hear ya, but I was never in the military so I can't join Navy Federal, USAA etc. I don't qualify not being in the military. So I just do without. I dont mind save those things for the people who do belong and deserve the benefits
Thanks

Thanks, you are correct I do not need half of what I have but the damage is done so I may as well keep them all. I do rotate cards in my portfolio daily. I also rotate the two cards that my two personal assistants carry. They spend more then I do LOL. But its all for my bills etc anyway

If you already have a cb card they probably take it and if you join big lots rewards you get more discounts. you dont need the big lots credit card to get the big lots rewards card. they are different cards, and to your liking they are both orange.
There are a few items that were inexpensive in that store even before the discounts,
instant coffee
as you mentioned laundry detergent
paper plates
deodorizer refills such as airwick
spices, they have a huge assortment of spices for a buck each
I used to go to that store regularly but then i got mad at comenity when they turned me down for a cli so i just paid off the card and never go there.

Never understood that logic, but to each their own.
If you were shopping at BL *before* acquiring the BL credit card, it really isn't the retailer's fault one gets declined for the card or even a CLI, especially if they accept *other* forms of payment. It's not like Comenity Bank owns BL or the prices for goods will go up if you decide to forego using the BL credit card 🤷♂️ And, as pointed out, one doesn't need the BL card to join their loyalty program, like most retailers.
