Okay, this was a new one to me:
I called up BofA today to ask to do a product change on one of our BofA Amex cards, because we have two. I tell her I'd like to change it to one of their Mastercards, which we have none of.
The CSR tells me they can't do a straight product switch, and asks if I would be interested in opening a new card? I say no, that we're not looking for more credit, I like the age of the current card, and I don't want the inquiry.
She says okay, and asks if I can hold. When she returns she suggests the following:
A 'companion card' can be created that is a new card, with a new number, of a different type (Mastercard), that no new application will be filled out, and there will be no inquiry. They will then transfer the credit line, except for $500, to the new card.
I had never heard of this before. Has anyone else?
