Last night on a whim we tried to get into a Steakhouse at 7:00 pm and they told us that 9:15 would be the next available reservation for 4. I never used the concierge service but said I'll call and see what they can do, nothing to lose. Well Amex was fantastic and got us in for 7:45 and the look on the materdee was priceless(no pun intended) when we showed up at 7:45.
I have read some bad things about them not really helping and individuals saying that you could done the same with open table, but last night made me a believer.
Great card!
Awesome. Love AMEX. Good use of an often overlooked perk.
Edit. Spell check.
wait wait, explain this perk. I don't really know about it because Amex doesn't explain it good. I thought it was just for travel and hotel booking. Please explain. I have the PRG and EDP. Does it cost to use? Full details of how and when and what it can be used for. Thanks in advance

You need the Platinum card for this perk. PRG doesn't have it.
No it doesn't cost anything. Annual fee is $450 but with really great card benefits.

Nice Benefits
Couldn't I use this benefit for that? This is how Amex explains it...
Relationship Care® service means we're here to serve you when and how you need us, and help you get the most from your relationship with American Express.

What is personalized travel service, Relationship care and Global Assist® Hotline. What do those three do?
Don't know but they aren't the same. Again you cannot get this perk without the Platinum card. You are comparing apples and oranges, both cards don't have the same benefits and that is why the annual fees and rewards structure arei different.

concierge can come in very useful sometimes. there is actually a quite extensive list of restaurants around the world that american express permanently holds tables at, in case one of their plat or cent cardmembers calls for a table. This way they can ensure they'll get you one. They used to have an actual list online but I haven't been able to find it recently.
Similar situation happened to me when i was in NYC last march. Decided to change my dinner reservation, as I wanted to eat at Quality Meats, and their earliest reservation was 9:30. JPM Concierge got me in for a reservation at 7:15.
One thing to always also consider, if you're staying in a big name hotel in a big city (think the plaza, the ritz central park, essex house, waldorf in NYC, or something similar to that) the concierge at a hotel with a big name in a city like that, is essentially unmatched in power. They can literally get you anything you want. So if your credit card concierge fails, always fall back on the hotel concierge.
I always use hotel concierge in big cities when travelling, I use FHR benefit frequently and all have been great. I would have used the Amex concierge sooner but I didn't think they would be able to have that kind of access, lesson learned, never believe what you read, lol.
