I have to admit, even as a cash back guy and not a points guy this looked interesting to me.
But man, to choke on that $550 fee HURTS.
I know some will say oh but you get this back you get that back, but again, $550 out of pocket NOW, ouch.
Plus I am not a traveler, so that doesn't help.

It's an ideal situation for those who value MRs and maximizing such opportunity, especially given the 2 attractive offers floating around. Sure, for a variety of folks that $550 AF may seem unpalatable, but for others it's an amazing return on the initial investment.
I never had an AMEX Platinum but always wanted one. Since AMEX SUB offers are once in a lifetime I waited. This offer seemed good enough for me so I went ahead and applied for it. Got an instant approval!

Certainly hope they extend the streaming and wireless credits. Or at least the streaming one. That's pretty nice to have.
