Hi All,
I currently have the Slate Edge and it's not a terrible card but I never use it because it has no cash back rewards and I'd like to get more out of what I have with Chase.
Could I/Should I product change to the OG Freedom card? I'm currently like 28488281/24 and want to ensure I am eligible for the unlimited and flex bonuses when I apply in two years.
does anyone have any insight? Thanks!
A product change isn't a new account, so it shouldn't affect anything other than the rewards to rake in.

What is: 28488281/24? Someone, please correct me if I'm wrong but I think by product changing you wouldn't be eligible for SUBs with Chase then vs. just applying and closing out the Slate Edge.
Making an educated guess here and I'm gonna say you're probably not familiar with Chase or their cards.
Look at my siggy below. I got a Chase Freedom Flex card going on 1 year now and burned them in the past. I'm just not that familiar with product changes other than what I've read online as I never did one myself.
i saw your signature. Having their card doesn't mean you're familiar with Chase's rules or their other cards. Which is why the person who responded before you responded by saying that a product change isn't a new account. Their statement was something I already knew and they didn't quite provide the insight I was looking for but they understood what I was referencing.
If you were then it would be very clear to you that 28488281/24 was a sarcastic over exaggeration of Chase's 5/24 rule. I had also explicitly said that I was looking to product change to the OG Freedom card which hasn't accepted new applicants in years. You can only product change to it so that I wouldn't use up a bonus offer spot in two years when I apply.
If you're not using the Slate Edge anymore, of course PC it to something more useful! You don't need to be under 5/24 to product change and doing it also doesn't count against 5/24. You may need to have held it for at least 1 year. The strategy of going for the Freedom to preserve your SUB eligibility for the Flex and Freedom Unlimited is also solid. However, to do it may take multiple tries and the right CS person. They need to understand that you want to product change to the "Chase Freedom with Ultimate Rewards" and if they don't understand that request, just keep calling until you get someone who does.

There's no regulatory-based reason why you couldn't product change, it would strictly be a question of what if any senarios Chase is currently allowing Slate cardholders to PC to an OG Freedom and whether or not you qualified. Personally I'd try to PC the card if for no other reason than there's a reasonable chance of you at least sometimes being able to take advantage of a quarterly 5% category, much of the appeal of the Slate is for the window for low APR purchases and balance transfers for new cardholders. Call Chase and ask, if they give you a thumbs-up you can always tell them that you want to think about it and will call back later if you decide to proceed with the PC.
The chase slate is a balance transfer/low apr card while the Og Freedom is a 5X rotating category card. You should definitely PC since the OG freedom isn't available to new applicants and won't affect your eligibility for any of the other freedom SUBS.
