Re: Credit Card Application

I apply online to ensure the data is entered properly-

I hate having "new addreses" , "New Employers" "new SSN's" etc because someone does not enter the data exactly right and it's a pain to fix.

There are a few cards that can not be applied for online- or able to get the terms of a pre-approval online.

Re: Credit Card Application

I agree with Timothy.

I always apply online because it gives me a chance to make sure all of my submitted data is correct.  I'd rather not rely on a CSR on the other end of the phone typing things correctly.

Re: Credit Card Application

I had good luck fill out an app at the store. It was for the Dillards AMX .The sales rep was pushing the card pretty hard so I took it as a sign. She swiped my drivers license filled out the app and I was approved for a CL 600. Maybe she knew something because with my scores an history I felt no way was I going to be approved.

My scores were in the high 500 an two derogatory.

Re: Credit Card Application

I don't do it that often. Its hard to look at a teenager when they tell me I was denied. So I pick an choose my battles.  It helps to ease the pain Smiley Sad

Re: Credit Card Application

I actually prefer over the phone. I applied online for Chase Freedom. Got the we'll let you know message. The next day, I called the backdoor number for an account specialist and she told me my application was denied. She asked me a few questions, pulled another report from another CRA, (boo) but was able to overturn the denial. If I hadn't called, I would have wasted the initial inquiry. She even let me tell what I thought was a fair credit line.

I also got approved over the phone for a Hello Kitty card recently. I got a better APR than what was listed online and they gave me a higher cl than what I was initially approved for.

I think being personable helps. You can also answer any questions they may have, instead of letting a computer decide based on some arbitrary formula. IMHO, the specialists seem to be able to override these decisions, otherwise their would be no reason for the backdoor numbers.

But in the end, I think it's all personal preference and as always YMMV.
