I am in need a card that has the ability to add an authorized user and were I can control how much they spend. Is this type of credit card even available?
I believe you can do that with American Express.
I can set spending on all my business cards for added cards, but I don't think most personal cards allow that
If you get a card with a CL equal to the spending limit, and don't authorize the overlimit features, they will not be allowed to overspend. If you get a card from CITI, they won't allow you to spend more than the CL in any one monthly cycle even if you pay early. You would have to pay bill right at statement closing to make this work.

Do you mean that you can have a business card with, say, a $10k limit and add an AU and set that one particular individual's CL to, say, $5k? I am hoping that's what you mean. Which business cards can you do that with?
I would really love a function that allows you to set individual limits for AUs. I can do that with some of my offshore credit cards, but none in the US. ![]()
for sure Citi Business Cards.
I think Amex

Is Citi business like a lot of others that are based on your individual credit history or do they require a D & B?
individual credit
O6, Chase business cards allow that. However, the limit you set for an AU is a monthly limit.
Let's say you've set a $1k limit. Your AU charges $1k on August 17th. Your statement closes at midnight on the 18th. On the 19th, that AU can charge another $1k.
Not ideal, but not bad either, if you monitor the activity. And the charges by the AU are broken out on your statement.
Hope this helps!

Thank you!
I agree with it not being ideal, but it is still better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I might have to get me a business card.
On a related note, I read I think it was yesterday that either MasterCard or Visa is going to roll out a service for issuers which allows them to easily implement cardholder requested limitations on accounts. Included in some of the examples given in the article, you could set a limit of, say, $500 on restaurant purchases and anything over that amount would not be approved. It also mentioned individualized adjustable limits for AUs. I only wonder why they never did this light years ago.
I never used it because of low CL, but American Eagle offered it on the store card when I got mine a long time ago. Not sure about the Visa. I am looking for information about it because I have college age kids and it would be nice! I found RBC does it, but not sure if I'm allowed to post a link? Here is part of what it said.
As a cardholder, you can now add the Family Card option to your RBC Royal Bank credit card. This option allows you to provide funds to Authorized Users (up to nine) by setting unique spending limits and monitor spending activity.
