Re: Credit One, Cap One, Best But and more!

NFCU is a amazing Credit Union to be in with.... After you build a relationship with them they offer some pretty generous limits when it comes to thier unsecured cards......Smiley Happy

You know how long it might take? I just joined as a member last 9/1 and got a secured card on 9/6, so the card is still in the mail lol.

I would give it a good 6 months minimum before I would try for their unsecured card.....

Try not to fall out of your chair when you see the limit they may offer you Smiley Happy

Try to keep your overall utilization low before you apply for thier unsecured

Haha! That good huh? I hope so. I always see things I like and want to by but never do because I dont want to kill my UTI so I usually pay cash instead. I cant wait. I'm so excited! Everyone here is so friendly! I'm canceling all the Crap cards soon. I called credit one to cancel and they said they will waive the fee for the next 2 years. Is thia good and should I take the deal and still sit on them and reevaluate then? I told them I'd think about it and call back in an hour.

Do not take the deal... At the end of the day the fees will return and you will still get no rewards....

This game is about the long term view and getting value out of your cards ... Not just credit limits....

And yes NFCU IS that awesome lol

As far as utilization... Just use the card for the purchase but pay it off before your statement date... Then the card will always report 0% on your credit but you get the benefits of the cash back rewards from the purchase.... Win Win Smiley Happy

You don't want every card to report zero. One card with a non-zero balance is optimum, but letting more than that report shouldn't be a big deal.

Cory, if you watch utilization on an card by card basis, overall utilization will take care of itself. But a bit of overall utilization padding is the reason I suggested hanging onto Wayfair and Fingerhut for the time being.

Re: Credit One, Cap One, Best But and more!

No Problem.... There's the statement date and then there's the due date... Just make sure you don't get those confused...

The statement date is when they report your balance to the credit agencies... the due date is the last date you have to pay in full before you pay interest...

The statement date is always before the due date... What I do Personally is I find out what the statement date is for my cards and I add that date
as reminder on my calendar on my on phone and set it to repeat monthly.... This way at a glance I know which card is about to report and if I want it to show a zero balance I know the date I have to make sure the balance is paid in full ... Little protip for ya Smiley Happy

Re: Credit One, Cap One, Best But and more!

I just want to thank you both! You are all so helpful here! I am going to add my statement date. I will garden until 3/10/19 if the NFCU card becomes unsecured and see if I can do a product change. Or do you recommend just applying for a new card with them at that time instead? I will just request CLI on the Paypal, Discover, Cap1 and etc since they don't do hard pulls. Best Buy, I will just call them and try and figure it out. I heard Citi is pull happy when reading in this forum and no one really knows so I may just leave it as is with them until they auto

With any product change you will lose any sign up bonus the new card offers... So you have to figure out if that's worth it to you or not...

Only exception is if they offer you a upgrade offer....
