Soo, I have a TDECU credit union credit card with a 5000 limit that shows (somehow) also a 5000 cash advance limit. (would never get a cash advance, just find this odd and curious about it)
On my statement, it shows (and I quote):
Credit Limit: 5000
Available Credit Limit: 5000
Cash Credit Limit: 5000
Available Cash: 5000
***Does this mean that I can take out up to 5000 in cash from ATM or Teller at branch as a cash advance from this credit card?! Any explanation for this? Anyone else experience something like this? Is it an error or for real? I ask because I am used to cash advance limit being about 20% of the credit limit.
***Also, this credit card (being from a local credit union) only has Chip...NO contactless tap to pay...I have to insert chip for payments. I have not used the card yet, so I am curious...is this a problem? Like, are most merchants still taking chip payments or is the card obsolete? Would a hotel still take it fine with only chip?
Thanks!
Don't know about your cash advance question, but I have never been anywhere that doesn't take a chip card. I have been a lot of places that don't have tap to pay. Tap to pay is the oddball in the equation and the technology most likely to be missing, not chip readers.

My CU credit card is from my work credit union for 10k. The cash advance limit is also 10k. The cash advance APR is the same as the monthly credit APR.

I'm also a TDECU member and cc holder.
The beauty of a TDECU credit card is that it functions a little like a small loan, in the sense that you can bt or withdraw the full amount for the same apy on their cc's.
Just about everyone still takes chip payments, so no problems there.
Curious, do you have the reg. Platnum, buccees Platnum, or platnum Onyx? All work the same, but the Onyx has more benefits than the other two.

I'm not quite sure what is so shocking? Your Cash Advance limit is your card limit.
A card does not need to be contactless. Chip and strip will work just fine.
Heyy *high five*!
Nice to see a fellow tdecu member here haha. I love tdecu.
Anyway, I have a regular platinum card....isnt the bucees card just a different design for the platinum card?
Oh and I plan to apply for the ONYX card in March 2026...however, I am curious....***do you think I should go for a 2nd tdecu card (onyx) or try for CLI on platinum?
CLI with tdecu is like resubmitting an application (so they told me) and yields a hard inquiry. Any experience with CLI with tdecu? Easy to get?
Shocking because usually like always it is just 20% of limit.....all my cards have CA limit 20% of full limit.

yeah this is definitely different per bank and even per card
navy gives 30% as a CA limit
my jovia card I have 100% of the limit as CA limit, but jovia doesn't offer the really cool functionality of pulling it out into checking, so it's not a very useful thing to have, admittingly

Correct, the platnum we both have still gets the bucees discount and the same as the bucees platnum, just a different design.
The Onyx is on my list as well. (You need a 750+ on equifax to apply)
I think the best approach is to apply for Onyx in branch and ask the finance person to use the same hard pull for a cli on the reg platnum.
They will use the same hp if you ask in person 😉
If you get shot down for Onyx you may still get the cli, so you'll at least get 1 win (hopefully 2 wins)
My recollection from many years ago was that the full CL was usually available for cash advances. I only noticed lower advance limits around 10 years ago, but maybe I just wasn't paying attention.
