Hey guys, I am trying to apply for a new credit card. I noticed that social security office misspelled my middle name. Can they deny my credit application due to misspelled name? Anyone has any ideas?
Try applying without using your middle name, or just using the initial (assuming that the SS office at least got the first letter right.)
And in the meantime, grab all your identifying documents, the ones you used when you first got the card, and go to the SS office and get them to fix this. This is a gift that will just keep giving over time. ![]()
They got the first letter wrong ![]()
"This is a gift that will just keep giving over time" What do you mean by gift? ![]()

I mean a gift, in a very unpleasant sense, as in your 401(k) and IRA contributions going haywire, and problems getting a passport, and anything else involving someone stubbornly saying, "I'm sorry, but your information doesn't match mine, and I can't (fill in the blank here) at this time. ![]()
Stuff like this needs to be fixed as soon as you discover it, because the errors will just keep compounding.
You have no idea just went to get my DL my married name would not verify so since I have been divorced years ago, they said my madein name verified.... Go to the SS dept, sit a few hours there, they said if I want to change back to my madian name must get a court order....so half my stuff is in each name I am waiting for my decree to go back and fight more, all. This because of a hyphen .......
