I had a 2,500 CL BofA for over a year now, and had one 30 day late due to a family crisis.
Last week I sent a goodwill letter to the CEO (per another FICO poster that had done the same, with luck) to remove my 30 day late.
My other credit card was settled right after college b/c I was an irresponsible student, and b/c of the same family crisis.
I just got a call from Bank of America informing me that they pulled my credit report because of my goodwill letter and they are closing my credit card immediately, with the remaining balance of 1,300 needing to be paid.
She made an offhand comment about "we are closing a lot of credit cards right now."
Thanks, BofA, for screwing me over. Hope this keeps you from making the same responsible mistake that I did.
Any help/advice would be appreciated. I now do not have a credit card, and can't imagine that anyone would approve me due to a settlement and a closed card.
Thanks - that is what my boyfriend suggested first.
Any suggestions for easiest cards to get? I know Chase won't approve me b/c the settled card was with them.

When I first started to try and rebuild my credit, the one that took a chance on me was Cap 1. They are very conservative and won't give large CL's, but they at least help those trying to rebuild. I think you can go to their site and see if you pre-qualify for anything you actually apply and it won't show up as a hard pull on your report. There are several CC's out there that offer this.
I'm not sure I agree. With Cap 1 you always risk having all three CBs pulled -- preapproval or not.
im so sorry this happened to you. what do you think your fico score is? if the account wasnt delinquent or overlimit at the time, you should file a complaint with the occ. this is almost as bad as some amex stories i have heard.
depending on your fico score i recommend capital one, wells fargo, or citi...its time to move on to better things
Say it ain't so Joe!
Please. I will get to paying my BofA cards down then, jeez. What were your FICO's? You never said and that's kind of crucial info here.
Thanks for the heads up on the GW letter...I don't believe in them anyway, but good to know.
Go to whogavemecredit.com and you can see what cards other people with your credit score have been approved for and who they pull from
I also went to the Bankruptcy board and researched some banks from the BK friendly list. I don't personally have a BK but I was able to find a couple of cards that did approve me.
I recently applied for and got an HSBC, Capital One and a Barclays Barnes and Nobel card. All with out AF and decent CL ($1200, $1000 & $700 respectively) I have pretty low scores (mid 600's) and a real bad late payment problem a few years ago.
Assuming your scores are higher than mine you might be approved for the same cards with higher limits.
Good Luck!

Man, that is just down right mean. Especially if you were current with them.
Yeah no joke. I was completely current, and had paid about $1,200 off in less than four months. All payments made WAY early.
My scores are very low...high 500's/low 600's due to some things I'm disputing right now. BofA lady tried to explain to me that closing my card would help my credit - what a moron.
How do I dispute with the OCC?
