Among my data points noted is that the Costco card cannot be PC'ed to another Citi product (although you can PC to the Costco card). It's unfortunate, but as Citi doesn't have too many options that interest me, I won't be losing sleep over it.
@Physh1 wrote:Such an interesting post. You didn't use the card but one time, you didn't renew your Costco membership, so the card has been basically useless for you right? Maybe I'm missing something...
What's missing was the purpose of my post, which was simply to provide data points about the Costco CC after one has termed membership. If I wanted to rant about Citi, I would have done so, but I have no reason to do so. I have never said Citi was "wrong" for how they handle the Costco portfolio; I am pointing out how they handle it.

The Costco Anywhere was designed around Costco Members with the rewards only redeemable at Costco. The need for Costco membership was not secret or hidden information it was needed to get the card.Without membership the cards rewards can not be redeemed, so the card would be worthless. This is not a fault of Citi or Costco. It is like getting a Union-76 gas card and surprised it is not able to be used at a Shell Gas station. Then wanting 76 to transfer it to Shell ? You got a Costco Card and don't shop at Costco. It was just a question of how long, not if or why.
Now we have a good "how long" data point.
Agreed here. You have to look at the Costco membership as basically a required AF regardless of whether you shop there or not.
Required AF still gets me each time.

For the cobranded warehouse clubs CCs (Costco, Sam's, BJs, etc), the yearly membership fee is a de facto AF. And often times, people on the Forums ask if they should keep paying AFs on their CCs. For some, this may be worth it on a "useless" card, if they need it for UTIL or to preserve AAoA in the future (closed accounts factor into AAoA for as long as they report). For others, it's not.
I cannot make any blanket recommendations on that topic, as it's a YMMV situation. But what I can do is present my experience to help others make informed decisions.

I think the whole purpose of this thread is just merely data points. SRE made a post/thread last year about this, and was just following up with a, "what will happen to my Coscto Visa".
SRE I doubt is surprised by the letter, or the actions of the letter since this has been an anticipatory reaction from Citi. I did not get the impression from SRE or this thread that OP is "shocked" or "upset". SRE was merely testing out options to the card/closing.
Thank you for the posting the follow up SRE! Citi sure took their time, probably hoping you'd cave in and buy the membership, LOL..
Thank you, and that is correct. The account closure is certainly not a shock or surprise to me. The "shock" is really how long it took to happen. Perhaps the fact that my rewards check was never cashed called attention to the account. However, it would have made no sense to renew my Costco account and immediately cancel it just to get $1.10 back!
