I’ve been a DCU member since August 2014 when I joined to get an auto loan through them. Last month I finally got around to accepting on of their preapprovals for the platinum visa card. I was approved (but not instantly) for 10K. It been a month and I’ve yet to see a hard pull on any of my reports. I don’t know if this is normal for DCU but I thought I would share because I probably would have got their credit card earlier if I would have known it wouldn’t be a hard pull. Is this normal or did they mess up?

AFAIK DCU has been known to pull for everything. Take the money and run though; however, I'm kind of sad never seen a pre-approval from them hehe with 15 years membership.
Was thinking of opening one and closing my secured card once mortgage sorted or maybe a year after that. Have to see.

Actually a question, was the Venture already reporting when you picked up the DCU card?

Congrats on the preapproval for the DCU Platinum card! It is surprising that sometimes they will HP for nearly anthing; I was told by a CSR that they would perform a HP for an upgrade from a Platium into the Platinum Rewards card, so I didn't accept that upgrade offer. My partner received a preapproval for a car loan after paying off the previous car, and there was no HP. Go figure.

It was reporting but it may have been reporting as a 10K limit as I only recently got it bumped to 13K.

Good to know. My current theory (which could be very wrong) is that if you have a stale preapproval in the DCU account manager there is a chance of no hard pull.

I've never taken a HP with any of my DCU preapprovals.. just adding that data point on, as well. Even for auto loans, CLIs, and other things.
Thanks for contributing. Would you mind elaborating how you got CLI without a hard pull? Was this some sort of "you are preapproved for a X$ increase" or did you initiate it?

Yes, it was a pre-approved CLI -- I called and said how much is it for? They said up to 10k... did something and said it was processing. I said hmmm ok. I went online after I hung up and clicked through the pre-approval online and boom the card had 10k.. no HP whatsoever.
