No, it shouldn't be a condition.

The Delta card is associated with your FF profile, and any tickets you purchase with your FF# will have the free checked bag and priority boarding associated with it.

Maybe it's just a case if misinformation from frontline CSRs, but I was told I needed to use my Delta AMEX to get the benefits of having the card. (Free baggage etc)

I'm making an assumption, so the CSR's may be correct.  For instance, if I redeem a coach fight, shouldn't I also have the Delta CC's free checked bags and priority boarding?

I tried that once and it didn't work.  You have to use your card to buy the ticket to get the free bag checked.  It won't work if you buy the ticket with another card.

I think I get what you are hinting at, but you don't need to have the Delta card to redeem for a free flight. You can transfer MR points, and plus you earn SkyMiles just from flying delta itself. The benefit of having the SkyMiles AMEX is getting free checked bags, 20% in flight discounts, and Free priority boarding, in addition to the earning oppurtunity for a free flight.

+100.  The same goes for the Untied airlines card too.

Re: Delta Amex question

I've had a couple of business trips and I had to use my corporate card (VISA) to buy the tickets and I was able to get free bag check each time (6 total) with no issue.

It's attached to your skymiles #.

Re: Delta Amex question

You do not have to make purchase with the card to get the benefit. It's attached to your Skymiles profile. Longtime Skymiles member with the Delta card. Just flew in October on a ticket purchased with CSP and got my checked bag and zone 1 boarding.
