Re: Delta Reserve AMEX

Oh, I'm not planning to.  I'm talking long term here.  I've said before that my next app would be Amex Platinum in January 2009.  I'm just gathering the data so I can figure out whether this would be a better deal than the Platinum, but not until the time comes, of course.

Of course, I believe you.  Smiley Happy  I can't wait until October when you app for the BofA Amex and the WaMu card.  Oh wait, that's already happened!

Would some black diamond white cheddar help?  Or is that considered cannibalism?

Re: Delta Reserve AMEX

I use my Amex Platinum card once in a while to buy a cup of coffee. That is the only usage my card is getting from me. I am so upset with Amex the way the treated me for my Delta App even that cup of coffee is way too much spending on that card..Smiley Happy

I understand your frustration, concord.  I just wonder if it's worth paying $450 a year for the privilege of charging a cup of coffee every once in a while.  Why not just dump it?

As for the Rootie-Tootie Delta Supremo, I gather that they're not waiving the first year's fee?

Doesn't look like it.

On the bright side, though, I called the number included in the email and got some good info. The rep who answered immediately asked if I'd like to upgrade my Delta Skymiles account.  I told him not just yet, but I had a few questions.  Here's what I found out:
  • If you got the email, it means you have an existing Delta Skymiles card and can convert your existing card to the Delta Reserve card with no inquiry and no new account reported.  The old Delta Skymiles account will convert seamlessly into the new Delta Reserve account.
  • When I asked the rep if this card can be seen as sort of a hybrid mix of the existing Delta Skymiles credit card and the Platinum charge card, he told me that was the right idea.  It offers many of the same benefits as the Platinum charge card, but instead of accumulating MR points, you accumulate Delta Skymiles.  You do, however, get the benefit of double Skymiles on everyday purchases.  There are no double points categories for the Platinum charge card.
  • You also get an annual roundtrip companion ticket that can be used for domestic coach OR first class tickets.  The Platinum Delta Skymiles' companion ticket is restricted to coach, while the Platinum charge card companion tickets are restricted to international first class.

That's about all I could find out from my brief conversation.  I found the part about being able to seamlessly convert pretty interesting, though.
