Delta SkyMiles AMEX card notes

It has been an interesting day.

I have a Delta Gold SM card with a Delta SkyMiles number assignment, of course, and a healthy balance of miles on it. I've been researching how miles move around and can be transferred (not easily) between various plans. The Diners Club Club Rewards transfer to Delta SM is straight across, 1,000 for 1,000 so that is good to know, I also have the DC Premier card.

Looking at the AMEX Member Rewards, however, it seems 1000 MR points transfers into only 750 Delta Miles. That's a steep discount, and changes how one looks at the "points" earned on the various AMEX cards. The MR points may trasfer better to other mileage plans.

Also, in digging around in my file folders, I ran across a letter with a different Delta SkyMiles account number than what is on my AMEX card. In years past I had other flying sprees for work, didn't strictly control which airline I flew on, and apparently this account was created out of my Northwest WorldPerks miles account, when NW and Delta merged. My NWA activity included some trips to Europe, the miles add up quickly there. So, I called Delta, they confirmed there are two accounts, and the system took over and is merging everything into the old account number. Which is nice, I should be able to recover some miles from the old NWA account, but that means I need to think through all the places I've listed my current Delta SM number, starting with contacting AMEX to update my Gold SkyMiles card.

So it's been a productive day: I figured out I'm not really missing any rewards by not having the other AMEX cards, the Diners Club Premier keeps winning, and I found airline miles in the couch cushions, I just don't know how many yet.

Merry Christmas!

I was on the Amex site today trying to figure out which woul be the best airline for getting the $200 plat credit and also transferring out points for miles, Delta being the only world wide contender for the platinum credits and point transfer. My point being that unless the Amex website is lying to me, Im pretty sure points convert 1 for 1. If not now, maybe in January.

Re: Delta SkyMiles AMEX card notes

The link I got to, re-checking, is for Canadian AMEX customers. Could not relocate a specific page showing US conversions, AMEX MR points to Delta SkyMiles.

Perhaps someone who has actually converted US-based AMEX MR points to SkyMiles could comment.

That would make sense, as to why the worths would be different. Though isnt the Canadian dollar is basically worth the same as a US dollar with in a few cents? I dont get why they would make it transfer to a lesser amount.

Well, yes, and I would presume that the person holding the Canadian AMEX would have transactions in Canadian dollars. There is a Canadian Delta MasterCard apparently, so it is a mystery why the points/miles rates would be different.

You log in into your account, click on 'View rewards'  Then go to travel rewards then 'points to miles' and continue to the delta option.  Pretty easy
