I was denied an AMEX today sadly. I recently applied for 2 credit cards in August and one in July. I had a year of credit history and picked up a second job this month. Never missed a payment and paid in full. Also, never above 30% utilization. Is it because of the inquiries in such a short time? Should I apply later on? I'm trying to be approved for a student loan in August next year so I want to build credit, not hurt it by credit denials.
Thanks!
What Amex did you apply for?
I applied for the Gold. Could that be it?

Hurry up and apply for the Delta Gold Skymiles. They will use the same pull..you should be able to get that card since it is the easiest to get.

Have no clue. I could only speculate obviously, but based on lurking on these forums for years, I'd guess it's due to your short 1-year history + recent accounts opened. Your scores are actually 50 pts higher than mine when I was approved for the Amex Green charge card (which I believe has similar, if not the exact same, underwriting criteria to the Gold). I just wondered if you applied for a charge card or revolver. By every account I've read, charge cards (like the Gold) are easier to get.
Also to abundancejones' point, I don't think you can apply for another Amex card for some time (30 or 60 days) once you've been denied. You'll actually get a message to this effect, and Amex will just cancel your second app. I think the trick abundancejones is thinking of applies when you've been approved.
No, you are allowed to apply for a charge and a revolver on the same day with the same pull. You just can't apply for the same card for 30 days.
Call the excutive office and try to recon. im calling tomorrow morning as they dont approve me either.
What is your total of all credit lines, school loans, car loans, mortgage?
Honestly, they might just think you are at your max at 30%, especially if you have a lot of credit floating out there.
Until you know the reasons for denial, there is no need to call the EO/recon. Also, keep in mind Amex is not recon friendly. You would need to show that the credit report they pulled had errors for a successful recon. Explaining why you had a high number of inq's would not matter to them unless they were coded incorrectly (ie auto shopping) or not yours.

Ah, sorry. My mistake then.
