Why do they make you connect with plaid??

So they can connect to your bank account and "verify" your income.

I've declined any lender application that's ever asked.

Anything under $5000 SL you will get a PLASTIC, regular Visa.

HOWEVER (Verizon Visa is the only product I've seen do this) once you CLI to $5k or more, they AUTOMATICALLY ship you a METAL signature card!

They aren't offering the metal anymore. I was approved for $9500 and got a flimsy plastic card and Reddit has no recent reports of metal cards either. They even shipped the card in the fancy packaging they used for the metal card and got me all excited for nothing.

So I recently applied for the Verizon Visa card... it actually made me authenticate by linking my bank to Plaid.  After that, I got the 7-10 day message and figured it was a rejection.

Got a letter saying to call them for further verification which I did... was told I was approved... asked what the CL was and they said 1000 (sad trombone but hey... at least an approval!)

Then I get an email saying "Congratulations on your Verizon Visa Signature Card.  Your new Verizon Visa Signature® Card is on its way. The package that contains your card will be delivered to the address you provided within 7-10 business days."

Then there was a link for a temporary shopping pass and when I checked that, it said Credit Limit was 1000 and temporary credit limit was 1000.

i thought the minimum credit limit for a signature visa was 5000.

Has anyone gotten a Verizon Visa Signature cc with a low starting limit?

thanks in advance.

When I got mine in June 2020, my initial SL was $4000.

I can also vouch that if you lose the metal (not me, DD Smiley LOL) they replace with plastic.

The fancy packaging leads me to believe this wasn't a mistake. But for my own assurance - on your plastic card, does it say VISA or VISA Signature?

Re: Did I Really get the Verizon Signature Visa or just a regular Visa?

visa siggy means nothing any more.

visa infinite means something.

and I think it's based on income too.. like to get the World Elite MC version of any card that offers it, you have to earn 80k or more a year.

this information is available publicly directly on their websites. google it and let us know what you find :-) I did read the 80k or more a year thing on world elite mcs.

Re: Did I Really get the Verizon Signature Visa or just a regular Visa?

When I was carshopping thinking that Carvana was a good dealer (oh my god after research I found out I was SO WRONG), but I never signed a loan document, but I did connect to plaid and they took out SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS from my bank account WITHOUT ANY SIGNED LOAN DOCUMENTS and it took me almost a MONTH to get it refunded.

that was the only and last time I would ever do that.

However, at my work, we use The  Work Number and a similar sys to verify that names on accounts and apps match and use it as fraud prevention. Doesnt usually cause issues, but I would never do it again for any reason, and it makes me sad that I have to defend, but we don't use plaid, we have our own software that i know very much about and as the decision maker, I let people skip it and provide me bank statements or paystubs instead. and I let them blur out whatever they want unless its info I need. Because I get it. That said, I have denied peeople for not verifying and I can smell fraud from a mile away. Gotta be real careful these days.

there are online paystub generators that cost NOTHING lol.. to make fake paystubs. One time a person did this.. and I easily figured it out because none of the info on the paystub existed so then I asked for her bank statements, and I could see the website she paid to make her fake paystubs LOLOL... how funny. how dumb really. I would have lost probably 60k if would have not caught that.

Re: Did I Really get the Verizon Signature Visa or just a regular Visa?

WEMCs got watered down to nothing as well, there's no longer any such income requirement.  College students can get a Capital One Quicksilver issued as a WEMC with a limit below $1K.  In fact, it's harder to name non-WEMC Mastercards than WEMC ones in 2025, almost everything is one now since issuers can reap the higher swipe fees without providing the tier benefits.  Cha ching!

Re: Did I Really get the Verizon Signature Visa or just a regular Visa?

Signature [used to?] require an opening SL of $5000 or greater. If you qualified for a product, but not an opening CL of $5000, you would have the big ugly generic white background VISA logo instead. In most cases, this would NOT be upgraded, even if you later received a CLI taking you above $5000, you were tied to the product that you received at account opening.

The Verizon card was the only exception to this I've seen, where I [was] issued a new card after passing the $5000 limit threshold for the signature product. Since we know the metal cards are now no longer a "thing", I am curious if even plastic replacement cards would at least update the VISA logo to Visa Signature.
