@ Changingmantra, I had the same thing happen a few years ago when I first opened accounts with HSBC at the bank. I only had an Orchard Card from them at the time and when I went in to open my checking and what not, they wanted to know if I would like to apply for a card with them since I didn't have one, and I told them I did. Apparently unless it is a straight up HSBC CC, no OB, no Direct Merchant, no Co-branded, they can't see it or access it. I've noticed that the only thing you can apply for in the bank and get pre-approved for there are the boring HSBC MC's, none of the other flavors listed on the website.

Appears to be an emphatic NO ..except for a very few people who had had theirs for a minute. have had mine now for almost 10 months. I have called several times and they make sure to tell me that they DO NOT consider CLI requests whatsoever! Mine is one of their Direct Merchants cards. I access my account through on line there is no CLI button on the site at all and when I go to an HSBC branch I get asked if I want to apply for one of their CC. I always tell them that I have two and get told, "Oh, according to the screen here, you do not have any CCs with us." Maybe I have fewer options with the card because it is DM. Hope you have better luck with yours. I do know of a few instances where people have said they have gotten CLIs. A FEW!
