I've reached the point in my credit journey where I don't really have to worry about approvals anymore. FICO 8 is ~810, oldest account is 11 years, utilization consistently under 3%, etc. A rational person at 2/24 would get a CSP and stack those UR points. And yet... I want a Discover card... USAA took care of me early on so I don't have an old "getting started" Disco still in the sock drawer. It seems like a great company with top tier support and decent rewards. For some reason it still feels like a hole in my lineup.
Am I an idiot for wasting a Chase slot? Please talk sense into me. November is going to be a big international spending month for me (UK). Any thoughts on a card for both SUB and staying power?
...if we're being honest I also really want to hit that Disco luv button...
Only you can decide what makes the most sense for you. If you want a Discover card get it. Chase isn't the be all end all.
Are you planning to app for 3 chase chase over the next 18 months? If not, get the discover like you want.

I like my DISCOVER IT card. May be a little redundant with CF with similar rotating categories, but not always. A small feature I like about DISCOVER is their cash back option at certain retailers, like grocery stores. You can make a purchase and request cash back, like $20 or $40, like your debit card, of course with no fee or interest.
I had one as a secured when i started my journey and i got another a year later that has grown a lot. I highly recommend discover for the 5% categories. I'm more of a CB kinda guy tho.
Chase did me wrong and i lost a card that would be over 20 years old now, so i'm Never/24. To each there own i guess.

I've got a huge amount of value from my Disco card but I don't think it's accepted much abroad. There are better no FTF cards with nice SUBs you could get like the CSP and get a nice one-time 60,000 point bonus if you spend like $3-4K in the first three months. Otherwise I think HSBC and PayPay have 3% and 4% initial sign up cash back periods, normally 1.5% on both of those, and they also have no FTF. Might want to check all of those out.
For the Discover, the categories have been great this year. I've been using the restaurants a ton this quarter and the previous one was gas which was cool as this quarter has been 5% on the Chase Freedom. They match that cashback for the first year so you'll get 10% back on the categories and 2% back on everything else. I also love all of the card designs they offer. I get compliments on mine all of the time. That's my 2¢ on that.

Shut the front door!
That is blasphemy! My life will not be complete until I get my Chase Co-Branded Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards Priority Visa Signature Card.
Why are speaking silly talk?

If your near term travel plans do not include relying on a USAA card ( I don’t know the benefit structure ) then the CSP or CSR makes the most sense as a next card.
Discover IS great as a card company, but I find I use it more for BT than the 5% categories, and even the BT aren’t really necessary.
With 5/24 rules, staying focused on any Chase apps is my suggestion.
