Discover 2% Birthday Bonus

So I received a note from Discover in the mail..."Celebrate your birthday throughout the month of June with a full 2% cashback bonus on up to $250 in purchases during the month."  I tried to sign up, but it says "You are not eligible to take part in this promotion" when I logon.  Do I have to wait to June to sign up?  It is my wife's account and I will have her call when she gets home, just curious if anyone had this problem before.

As in up to $250 cash back, or cash back on $250 spent? The latter equates to a net "bonus" of $2.50...

I got that same error too!  I ended up doing a live chat online with a Discover rep, and they applied it.

Yes, but 2% of $250 - 1% of $250 = $2.50, hence my use of the word net.

1% is Discover More's base cash back rate (after you break the $3k annual spend barrier). So, you would have already received $2.50 in cash back without the birthday bonus, giving you a net bonus of $2.50.

I highly doubt it, but we can let a Discover expert verify. It's interesting that your note says $500, but the OP's says $250. I wonder what determines the amount...
