I just signed up for Sam's club to have more options for shopping with everything going on. But the gas quarter is my favorite.
As far as other wholesale clubs, I'm not sure other than Costco and Sam's
I barely get enough use out of my Costco membership because I just shop for one person (and two cats, ha!). Can't use most Costco fuel stations because I drive a diesel - only one warehouse in my city carries diesel. 🙄I'm curious if Smart and Final is categorized as "wholesale club"?
The gas station quarter miiight do me well, if I can find a reasonably priced station that accepts Discover AND carries diesel. The two places I typically go to only accept debit!!!
I alwayse got 5% back at smart and final during the grocery quarter, so I don't think you will get 5% back for a wholesale club.

Well that solves that. Thanks for the insight! ![]()

I can second that Smart & Final codes as grocery. Kinda odd as they tout themselves as the "Non-membership wholesale wharehouse".
They *do* flip the 6% switch on Amex BCP though FWIW.

I doubt it, I read the fine print on the Discover website and it says only "rides" count. My guess it that it will fall under "1% on everything else" so even with my double bonus for in my first year I'll only get 2% on it - I'm gonna stick to Apple Card for Uber Eats.
Uber Cash might count, and you can then turn around and use that Uber Cash on Eats.
I haven't tried it yet this quarter.
Do online Costco purchases (which can be made with non-Visa products) count toward the Wholesale Club category?

Last year Discover's wholesale clubs category included Costco.com. I ordered a Costco Cash card and paid with Discover, worked fine for the 5%. I haven't tried this quarter yet.
Some folks have reported that buying gift cards at gas stations still work for the 5% on Disco (something Chae and others have already locked out). I don't know if that is still the case, but could be worth a try, especially if you are still a year-one disco user and getting 10%.

6% switch? Not familiar with this (I don't have AMEX BCP...and I'm still fairly new to this).

I might consider this now that we're sheltering in place. I don't typically order a lot from Uber Eats, but I've noticed I've been tempted to use it more now that I'm home more. Thanks for the tip!

OOooOooohh, I did not know I could pay with anything besides Visa at Costco or Costco.com!
I'm worried about Discover finding out I'm buying giftcards or store credit as I know a lot of CC companies don't look upon that too favorably. I wouldn't do anything large ($1000+), maybe $150-200?

I am a year-one user, but I'm also very new to CCs in general. From what I've read CC companies really don't like when you engage in that type of behavior to meet the spending requirement for sign-up bonuses. That's my main concern.

99% of the time it does apply, but not always. Sometimes it's the actual vendor just selling their item thru Costco. So buying "Martha's Wedding Cake", overnighting it to your house, might be charged by "Martha's Bakery" and not Costco itself.
All big stores do this. I bought Kroger gift cards online, but they were outsourced to a gift card vendor and it didn't code properly. I cancelled the order and just bought them in-store at Kroger. Costco gift cards do code as Costco Wholesale Club. Generally speaking, the more "specialized" the product is, the more chance that it is outsourced and won't code as the store itself.
