I got an auto CLI on my Discover IT of $300. The last time I received an auto CLI from them was right before the Fall semester started. And this time it's right before the Spring semester starts.
I have their student card so part of me wonders if this is their way of "rewarding" students right before a semester.
My BoA's new limit of $2000 has started reporting and it could partly be Discover trying to "one-up" them
The truth is it's probably a coincidence but this speculation is kinda fun haha
I don't think anyone has been able to decipher an exact pattern per se but congrats on the auto-CLI! Although mine is a non-student version, there hasn't been any rhyme or reason that I can tell when these auto-CLIs occur.

Ya. Interestingly, this new CLI showed up minutes after my payment cleared (I'm still 2+ weeks away from the due date). Maybe there are internal spending thresholds too.

Now, this I'm aware of since it would appear that based on some high usage or spending (over time) has yielded positive results in that space for the majority of times IME.

Ya. I used the "Spend Analyzer" and the spending just went past $4000 since I've had the card. The first time I received the auto CLI, my spending (over time) had gone past $1500.

This has been my experience as well. So far, I've gotten an auto CLI every 3 months. When I look back at my emails, I first opened my Discover IT in March. I then received CLI's on 6/15, 9/15, and then 12/14. Everytime I got them, I was always reporting about 55-60% utilization of my total credit limit.

I've shifted my spending to Discover to increase utilization and see if I'll get an auto CLI. No dice. Both times I've received my CLIs, my utilization was under 20%

For you, was the timing between the two CLI's the same as well? Just curious

The first was after 4 months and the second was after 5 months. The only pattern regarding the timing seems to be that they were both around the time a new semester started.
