Does anyone have a backdoor number to call to get an APR reduction on a Discover card? I recenly called to get mine reduced from 18.99% and they only gave me a small reduction to 17.24%. All of my other APRs are around 11.99%-14.99%, so I was hoping for a more substantial reduction. I found these numbers in the Backdoor thread:
Discover: 888-676-3695 (Recon)
Discover: 866-219-0214 (Retention Dept.)
But I don't know which one to call. I have no interest in cancelling the card (even with the higher APR), so I don't know if I should call the Retention Department, but I would love a lower APR. Does anyone know which number I should call?
Thanks!

You can try the retention department but there really isn't a "backdoor" number for APR reductions. Generally, the same CSRs that you contact via the regular line are the same folks empowered to lower APRs "IF" your account is elegible, regardless whether you have others who are much lower.

lol
I sent them a letter about two months ago asking for a reduction from 19.99% to, oh, say, 11%. They said no, then gave me a reduction to 18.24, so the same 1.75% change. Interesting.
After my scores increase later in 2015 I'll ask again, I expect more of a decrease next time.
You can get one Discover APR reduction every 6 months.
You can do it via online chat as well.
