I was approved for Discover It last month with a $10,000 SL. I took advantage of the 0 APR BT and transferred $1,800. I also put another $400 in regular spending on the card. What is the best strategy to get a CLI after 3 months? Should I try to pay the entire BT in full? Or is it better to keep that as a balance? My preference is to pay down the balance over time due to the 0 APR while I finish paying off a car but I am also trying to increase my CLs so I can close about $3,000 in credit I have with Credit One.
As others have stated, there is no rhyme or reason to Disco CLIs --
But, I wanted to point out that paying off your BT before requesting one is not necessarily necessary - but I think if your monthly payments are above the minimum required you'll have a better shot. I carried a $5K BT on my Disco for the first 6 months and received CLIs on day 82 ($500), day 113 ($4K), and day 153 ($900) -- bringing my limit from $10.8K to $16.2K. My auto-payments were set at $200/month but I also paid an additional $100 - $500 more depending on my extra funds that month.
I paid my BT off in month 7, but haven't been able to get another CLI since the last one for $900 in March (reason: insufficient experience with current limit) - my last request was Sept. 5th. My card just turned a year old on 10/28. Waiting for this next statement to cut (tomorrow) and I'll pay the current balance and request a CLI again... see what happens.
So... bottom line -- just hit the button and see what happens. Good Luck

This is what I'm talking about. If you're not using the card or paying the card to generate activity for the computer to assess your CLI request against you likely won't see movement. Doesn't have to be huge but, can't be $0 either.

Yea, no -- I didn't say i stopped using the card, I just said I paid off the BT. There has been and currently is usage on my card - just no CLI.
Also -- I messed up the days of my CLIs... edited my post:
CLIs on day 82 ($500), day 113 ($4K), and day 153 ($900)

I got the card on 9/23 so based on the feedback here I decided to just hit the button and take a shot now. No luv. 😂
That's okay -- try again next month on 12/3.

I've gone without using it for close to 6 months, ended up with $3k and $7k increases
You may want to work a bit more on that theory
My smallest increases came during heavy use
Not using mine for 6 months got me a PC To Miles w/o asking for it.

I don't think anyone has been successful before 60 days has passed.
You will literally see some people on here who hit that button weekly or even daily. If it didn't generate a snail mail letter every time I was declined, I would hit it more often than I do because it soothes my itch to app for new cards 😂
