So i was over on Discovers site looking at the CLI request form and got a bit confused by the text below:

At one place it says a credit pull maybe done which will affect credit score and further down under the Request section it says request won't affect credit score. ::confused::
Can anybody weigh in on this? Thanks.

When you first put your request through, if that number is eligible according to their last soft pull and computer algorithm, they'll allow you the CLI without a pull.
However, if it's not, they'll tell you that a credit pull will be required in the next page. They still haven't done an HP yet. However if you still want to proceed, it will be an HP (and maybe a call with an analyst).
Sometimes you can try from scratch again at this point and put a lower number and it may go through. it's difficult to predict the magic number that's hiding in their algorithm labyrinth.
@SpaceInvader wrote:Okay, I've read somewhere that if you have had the card less for a year it is always HP; how accurate is that?
Not sure if I have enough data. I do remember that my first CLI during the year was an HP and the second one was auto.
When given the option, you can always back out. If the option does not come back by the next statement, it's likely that they'll do an HP the next time you ask them. You can also call the CSR or try the phone automated CLI.
Discover can be a bit unpredictable about CLIs; however, unless you explicitly allow them to, they won't do an HP on your CR.
Discover is pretty good about doing CLI's automatically - I haven't even had my it card for a year and they gave me a $1.4k CLI without even applying, I was approved for $7,500 and now I have $8,900. I would just wait it out rather than requesting one, unless you really need it.

That's exactly what happened to me last week. I logged on and requested CLI... asked for $5000 more. The second screen advised me that a credit pull would be necessary. I cancelled and started over. ASked for $1500 instead and was given a 7-10 day message. The next day I logged on the new CL was displayed. I never received any email advising that I was approved.
On that thought the first 9 months with Discover they would not give any increase. Tried CLI request online a couple times and was denied... no SP or HP.
On the 10th month Discover gave me auto $1000 CLI. A month later ( last week ) I requested the increase and got approved.
Keep trying and don't give in to the HP.
I'm learning more and more that not having a HP can incrrease your chance of getting CLI approved on SPs. If this continues I may never initiate a HP until something sweet is attached.

Not at all, I got a SP CLI after my 6th statement
