Discover CLI question

I am wondering if when requesting a CLI from Discover do they use your "current free fico score" that they have? I am thinking probably but was just curious for future reference.

Thank you

Re: Discover CLI question

Its possible . Since your score is updated once a month its probably best to hit cli button after the update just in case though there are times they have referenced ilder report. I used to smash everyday on my first go around but realized at most your report will change once a month so 1 is all thats really neededSmiley Wink

Re: Discover CLI question

The CLI denial letters will give you a TU score. For me, that score has always been identical to the TU score on my most recent statement. So they do use that free score as part of their decision.

Re: Discover CLI question

I agree with carcdr above.  Discover most definitely does use their most recent SP (your score on the account) when making their lending decision(s).

Re: Discover CLI question

Yes, we talked about that on the Discover data points thread. Wait for the new soft SP to have been pulled at the end of the month before making a CLI request; BBS suggested the Monday following the pull might be an optimal time. I've usually waited until after my payment has been made (for my older card, on the 2nd) and the statement cuts (usually about 5-6 days following), but that may be longer than necessary.

Re: Discover CLI question

I used to smash daily as well, now that I can see its pointless...

So the correct way to do it is to ask for a CLI everytime you see your score in the app changes?

Re: Discover CLI question

After your score changes, in theory your statement period just ended so your new balance has been reported and your payment has been applied.  Assuming the above is true, after your score is updated is likely ideal.

I always like Monday's, as if you need to get a CSR on the phone you can.  Also, in the event of the 2-day message, it's the start of the business week so IMO you get the quickest response.  I went for CLIs between late Friday night and Sunday in the past and at times the 2 day message ended up being 4 or 5 days.  My theory on that is that I went for it on the weekend, but I have no concrete proof there.  In the event of an instant decision (approval or we cannot increase you limit at this time) I'm sure the day or time doesn't matter, though.
