Re: Discover CLI?

I get the argument that the card needs to be used more frequently but I think there is a sense of arrogance on Discover's part to believe that I should first use their card more in order to get a higher CLI. I run on average $4k through my Citi card each month bc they wisely gave me a high CLI from $6000 to $20000 in less than a month after opening the card.

I get that every lender is different but why should I budge first!? I'm the consumer. They need me more than I need them.

I set hold that I have really good score if my scores don't qualify as good I might as well give up on this credit monitoring thing.

I like the Discover brand (that's why I applied for the it card) but I personally feel that they are TOO CONSERVATIVE !!!

Re: Discover CLI?

There is an old saying: "... the man who has the gold rules..." So you do not desire to budge and then don't have the CL you desire. Understand your point of view but, I have found few lendors that cared whether I stayed or went as a customer. Moral of the story, do what you have to for a CL you want. Of late, Discover has become more flexible for those with good FICO Scores like yours. May be time to set principle aside and go after your CLI.

Re: Discover CLI?

I have tried both ways online and phone in the past 3 months. While online you will have to set a figure and cannot let  the computer offer an amount the CSR over the phone has this option. From my attempts and experience I would recommend to do it over the phone.  For me unfortunately the result was the same in July and October - a no go for SP CLI. I will now give up and wait until next year and then do a HP.  Or maybe I will try again once I see an account review on my reports ..Good luck Smiley Happy

Re: Discover CLI?

My best experience is using the csr on the phone as they seem to have some control on the SP or HP and may assist with an approvalable dollar amount.

Does Discover counter? Or do you need to get your numbers right the first time?

They counter.

My experience is also what others said, that the luv button is SP and they'll tell you if they need to do an HP,  but I agree the wording is confusing.

Re: Discover CLI?

They didnt have a SP increase for me.

I also dont use my discover that often. I put it to some decent use over the summer because of the 5% category, but almost no use since then. I suppose I shouldnt be surprised. While I really like Discovers customer service, the card doesnt fit into my spending as much as I would have thought. Perhaps it will see some good usage in the next few months.

Re: Discover CLI?

I'm of the mind I don't think it matters so much how much spending you put through the card for chances of CLI.  It seems it's rather a crap-shoot with Discover for everyone.  Not that I mean that in a bad way, but I don't think anyone will ever *discover* their internal algorithms.

As for the online luv button, if it doesn't approve your cli request, it will either counter or tell you it will require a review (HP), which you can then cancel the request.  Or you can call a CSR and see if they can approve with a SP.  If they can't, they'll tell you it will be a HP in which you can accept or decline.
