I'm guessing you got the More.  Did they give you the 15 months 0% intro deal?

So far I like Discover a lot more than I ever thought I would (no pun intended lol). They seem to have very good CS and I've saved a few bucks using "Shop Discover" too.  Whenever I've called they've been VERY impressive by being helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.  I'd rank their CSRs up there with NFCU and PenFed, and coming from me, that's a huge compliment.

It's funny that years ago I never considered Discover to be "a real CCC" and now I'm so glad I didn't pass on the chance to apply.  I never would have thought when they first came out that one day they would (IMHO) make BoA and Citi seem like cheap "imported" plastic.

Totally agree....   I wouldn't do business with BofA or Citi, you're just a number there!  Discover is great about customer service... they treat everyone like a VIP Smiley Happy

Try to see if you're qualified for a pre approval first.

If I go to the site, and they pre-approve, how likely am I to actually get the card?  Are people preapproved and then NOT offered cards? What are the odds? I would hate to prematurely hit the apply button and then get a HP when waiting a few months could make a difference... Not sure what to do and scared to proceed.

Re: Discover Card Which one & when ?

Brian, what's an estimate of your annual income as well?

My scores are good enough, but I'm afraid my income might be too low.

I hear Discover is one of those that goes by the yearly income as well. The More or the Miles are making me drool.

Re: Discover Card Which one & when ?

For those wondering about Discovers pre-selector\approval site, whatever one might call it (I haven't looked at it in a long time).

I have NEVER gotten a "HERE'S ONE FOR YA" offer when I've tried it Smiley LOL

It's only responded with something like:

"we were unable to find any offers for you at this time, but here are some cards you might be interested in applying for" (AMEX's site said same thing).

When I got the offer to APPLY through another site (a partner site) it wasn't from Discover. I just wanted the software they were offering if I were approved and an excuse to apply (ok, I admit it, the free software wouldn't even equal filling the tank on any car or truck in the driveway lol).

Income in 60's (actually much higher but I never put it down so none of them know that, just a very low average), perfect CR (not a single ding), oldest 22ish years, AAoA around 4ish (EQ FICO according to Discover on the approval letter 660, my lowest at the time). No mortgage, no installment loans, no  car loans, just CCs. I think 13 TL's showing at the time. With 3 or 4 INQ's within the previous year and high util (70%?).  Hope that helps anyone interested in DM.

Re: Discover Card Which one & when ?

Congrats on your Discover More card approval.  I was approved for a Discover More back in July and it's been a fantastic card for me.  The 5% categories are great, especially during the quarters when it includes gas, but the real gem is Shop Discover.  I just purchased a new Dell laptop through Shop Discover and not only did I get a sale price of $180 off the list price and free shipping, I also got 10% cash back.  Discover's cash back program is terrific too.  If you redeem your cash back for gift cards to restaurants and retailers, they will give you more than the cash value, like $45 becomes a $50 gift card for TGI Friday's.

Re: Discover Card Which one & when ?

@ crunching_ numbers. I think you be fine so long within the last couple years you have no baddies. They will approve you @ a 550 credit score with 3-5 years credit history. If you dont get approved they will give you a counter offer card. Its not by HSBK either. Get that foot in the door. Let us know how you make out.
