They have a lot of cool designs now that are subjectively much better than the monochrome versions. When i got the card they had a lot less than they do now and funnily enough they removed the one i have on my card and i just noticed.
You'll see all of them when you ll activate the card but it's kind of weird that they don't offer them upfront .
I got through to somebody really knowledgeable at Disco before I applied for the secured card. Keep in mind this was about two years ago.
The rewards are the same, the cashback match is the same. The only difference is UW. It's more forgiving to thin files but, as others here have mentioned, at the cost of being a lower SL and slower CLI's than the regular counterpart. They (again, at that time) do not automatically graduate, and do not have a way to PC because it simply is the same card from the outside.
This is part of why I apped for the secured card directly instead of trying to get the student version with my empty file. I wanted to make sure I ended up with the regular card instead of a nerfed one. (Then again, for a rotating category card, who needs more CL than my siggy shows?)
@Debit, yeah I didn't really understand why I couldn't see them all while I was applying. I will probably change it soon, unless somehow I like the design I picked, but if they ship it right when I change it it is kind of a waste.
@GrasshopperStudent, at first when I was only preapproved for the student cards I was a bit sad that they didn't preapprove me for the regular card, but honestly, when I think about it it works out for the better with the $20 for good grades. Worse comes to worse I have to pay off my balance multiple times a month to continue spending and keep utilization low. Although, at the end of the day they still gave me $500 more than AMEX did.
I would probably not cold app again, since the first time I did I got denied and 3 HPs from CapOne. I still don't fully understand how I got denied for their Platinum card, considering my credit score was probably in the 700's at the time. I also try to avoid secured, mainly because I don't like doing the deposit. I know that you get it back after they graduate you, but if my money isn't making money for me it is losing money for me.
