As others have mentioned, the Student version typically grows nicely.
My eldest DD got the Student Chrome a little over 3 years ago (her senior year of undergrad) with a starting limit of $2000. It auto CLI in 3 months to $4000. The "student" part automatically changed to the normal version, though, even though she went directly into medical school (I think it asks your anticipated graduation date or something, and it uses that for the conversion). After it converted to the normal card, it has steadily climbed up to $8400 now.
My youngest DD got hers at the same time while she was still a HS Senior. It started out at $1250 and has received 4 CLI's since and is now at $5900. She just entered her grade info recently to get the $20 statement credit... such an easy process!
