Thats what I had...seemed solid after digging around here.
@bichonmom wrote:I'm wondering if when you app, it's better to request a BT (it asks you on the app if you want to BT, which accounts and balances you want to pay.)
Or is it better to app w/o requesting a BT? What increases your chances of approval?
IIRC, they will pull any of the 3 CRAs. Is that right? It's been a while, so I don't know what they're doing now. All my CRs are frozen, so I'd like to know what to unfreeze before apping.
How prickly are they about util?
Also, when you use the pre-qual website, do they soft you? Curious because all my repts are frozen, but they came up with an offer on the pre-qual site. Usually those don't give me anything, I've always assumed because my CRs are frozen.
Thanks!
I don't know whether adding the BT during the application improves your odds of getting approved, but I do know it doesn't help you get a higher limit(to cover the BT) upon a (computer generated) approval. Sometimes a recon(manually reviewed by a person) will. My guess is they want that BT fee so won't look unfavorably on it. In that, I don't see a downside to adding it.
Discover is mainly a EQ puller.
Discover likes thin, clean files. If you have that, and a slightly higher utility, I don't see a major problem in getting approved.
According to popular consensus, Discover's pre-quals are very inaccurate so I don't know if they're actually pulling your reports. If they are, it's definitely soft.
I also think, when you apply to compaines and get denied, they still soft your reports and send you mailers later on. That could be how they're sending you invites while your accounts are frozen...not to mention compaines share with each other.
@Thexian, My spread was 12.99-15.99 and I was approved with $6.500 at 15.99 (now 16.24)
I've also tried putting in meaningless fake data and it said I was approved a few times over the last few weeks or so.
I just tried it right now and it said...
I'm going to be applying in about 5 days or so, once some paid off debt gets reported, so hopefully I'll get approved. ![]()
@bichonmom wrote:Well not sure what to think. The range on the mailer is 10.99 to 14.99, so that's 4% diff. It is for the red/burgundy Discover It card, but the online app showed a choice of colors, so I don't see that making a diff. The envelope is burgundy, though.
Obviously if Humpty Dumpty gets a pre-approval online, then it means nothing.
Do they always use one CRA, or does it vary?
That's the good one.

The Burgundy envelope or Burgundy prequal? Or both? Also, can I change the color to the Silver and still get approved? Lol I wouldn't think the color would matter for approval in this instance, but you never know sometimes
Color does not matter. You have definite pre qual. It's easy to get discover to lower your apr. Especially useful if not carrying during the 0% promo period. You are good to go (PS, they give a range, but plan on the higher apr).
