Discover Secured

Hello. Two weeks ago I applied for the Discover Unsecured Card. I posted my $400 deposit info which could have been as much as 2500 but that’s what I had. A week later I chatted with a Discover rep via online chat and asked if there’s a chance it could be unsecured since my credit had went up near 50 points on Fico 8. She said no it will stay secured. I just called and they said my card will be here Sat. No money or test deposit has come out of my bank account yet. I asked a CSR over the phone if my card is secured or unsecured. They said secured. They said they don’t send cards until deposit is received. I’m like ooooookkkk. No money has come out of my account. Could this be unsecured? Has this happened to anybody before? Sat I will have my Discover Card and I feel accomplished! Smiley Happy

Re: Discover Secured

Congratulations on your approval! I doubt you will be able to get them to unsecure the card that early. Be patient. I started my credit journey with the Discover secured card and they gave me my deposit back after 6 months of having it. I kept the statement balances low or at zero and always paid on time. Just be patient and it will grow.

Re: Discover Secured

But they haven’t taken a cent from my account, the card is halfway to my house, balance reporting and all that on their automated system. Idk

Hey,

I don't think that it will be an unsecured CC, it sometimes takes awhile for the money to come outof your checkings account. Its like when you pay a credit card via checkings account, it takes awhile for the bank X to get the money from bank Y.

Discover is a good bank to start with (secured credit card) so good choice!

Re: Discover Secured

It takes a little bit for money to transfer sometimes.

I highly doubt it'll be an Unsecured card.

Make sure you keep that money on your account.

Re: Discover Secured

In my case, I think I was approved October 8th, the deposit was taken out of my Elements FCU account the next day.  It took about two weeks to get the card.  I have had it, am using it and paying it down and still have not had a statement cut and it has not reported to any bureau yet.  I have heard reporting usually happens fast...

The moral of the story...  who knows!
