The hotel/airline would also want to be sure that the partner reflected their brand in some way (and not just the wrong sort of people clogging up their properties with free stays/flights).

This is an interesting point, and a relevant one for sure. It leaves much to be said about the fact that credit 1 is the official credit card of NASCAR!

I would like that and the loyalty would be epic. I used disco a lot when I first got it from January until the end of March and got nice cash back. They have nice partners you get either get discounts with or nice comeback on. I would love for them to have a airline or hotel partner. However, disco is conservative and don't like taking big risk like that. Even a premium card would cost mucho diners to maintain. We are not sure if Chase will keep the CSR due to its cost versus returns.

I concur, I think the loyalty would be epic as well. Perhaps your right in the sense that an airline or hotel co branded Discover card would be legendary.

They had the Sam's Club/Wal-Mart portfolio back in the day, so I don't see why they couldn't offer a hotel or airline co branded card. It does appear that a loyalty points program would be costly to implement and maintain.

But a hotel or airline co branded Disco would be a happy medium.

Good points Black Swizz!

Incorrect.... .GEMB/Synch have always had the cards for WM/Sam's.  They just had them on the Disco network for a time being.  As did Costco having theirs running on AMEX.  It's just a gimmick to get swipe fees and lower the cost for the retailer by not allowing other methods of payment in store.  Sam's even used only take Visa at one point or was it MC...... They've changed things many times over the years as things always are up for renegotiation when it comes down to brass tacks.

Interesting.

I'm curious as to the level of energy expenditure required for a true, Discover co branded card with an airline and/or hotel partner.

The OSH card I believe is also Discover network as opposed to a co branded card? Am I correct in regards to OSH?

I know that Discover had a long standing relationship with Sears. This was back when I was a youngster and could care less about Networks and such.

Does anybody have any input with regards to Discovers relationship with Sears?

Sears was once in all kinds of businesses. They created Discover when they were into financial services.

Bet they wish they didnt sell it now with their woe being sears Smiley Happy.. Least I assume they must of sold it.. I remember I had a discvoer card back in college and could go into sears for cash advances when they still owned it.  Ya I was a bright college student doing cash advances to well is history ...

LOL... I remember those days as well.

Back then one of the security features was a little Sears Tower icon embossed into the card.  In addition to getting cash advances at Sears I also would run to Sears to make a payment from time-to-time (if I was afraid a mailed check wouldn't make it in time).

Good old days...  Smiley LOL

I recall my ex mother in law having a discover card and she would religiously walk in her payments to Sears. She refused to mail in her payments. I wonder if she still has that old Discover card? Must be close to a 25 or 30 year old account if she still has it.
