Discover auto 90 day CLI question

Been trying to get some clarity after reading a bunch of messages on the 90 day auto CLI but thought others might be able to clarify:

Applied for Discover IT card on 12/31/16 and was approved for $1500. If I'm doing my math right today is 90 days from approval. I have currently put through about $2K through the card and have a $600 balance. My payment is due 4/8/17 but I plan on paying the $600 tomorrow and was wondering when I should ask for a CLI?

I have had only two statements cut which were from 1/1/17 - 2/13/17 and the second statment is 2/14/17 - 3/13/17. Payment dates for statements are the 8th of the month.

Should I wait until my third statement is cut prior to applying for a CLI or what's the best time to move forward with this as 90 days in?

I don't need the CLI but want one as everyone typically does on here.

My scores are anywhere from 650s - 680s. Since applying for the Discover card I have been approved from the CSP for $12K and most recently the CSR for $13K.

Thanks for all the help in advance.

1. Best thing is to wait until 91 days or more. Tomorrow is 90th day. 91st day is April 1st.

2. That's not what we term an "auto CLI". An auto CLI is when you get a CLI without asking for it.

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

Thanks. If I don't get the auto CLI on April 1 (day 91) should I ask for one? I know it's a soft pull regardless. Thanks.

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

I was denied a CLI on day 91. However was given a AUTO CLI 2 days after my 3rd statement cut. I also asked for a CLI on the same day and was given more. My CL doubled in 1 day.

I would wait until the next statement cuts but many have had success at day 91.

Auto + Disco = Sometimes

Auto (before 90 days) = indicator the door is open to ask for a CLI

No Auto + 90 days = Hit the button

There's never a guarantee that you will see one ever but, there's a chance and it usually happens before the first 90 days are up.  The 90 day thing is for new accounts before you can successfully ask for a CLI w/o being auto denied.  After the 90 days is up you can hit it as often as you want if you don't have one pending in the system.  I put together my CLI habits for timing purposes as well here:

Eventually after tinkering and kind of spotting a pattern with some others around here I switched things up after the 1st year to every other month on the first and the last 3 attempts have been for $6K+.

HTH and is useful.

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

Great info! Thanks for the reply and nice work with the CL. Chase seems to like my credit profile over Discover, but I have a couple of baddies falling off in the next six months so maybe that will help. Thanks again.

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

I say slam the button on the 3rd (Monday) since it's a business day which I think would be Day 93 for you.  If you hit it on the 1st, Day 91, Saturday, you may be put in limbo for a longer period of time.  I tried on a Friday once and didn't find out for a week whether or not I was getting anything (even though it was the "2 day message") but every time I've hit it on a Monday and I get the 2 day message I always get a result in 1-2 days.

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

I did mine before the 3rd statement cut, so the increase would report sooner.  I say hit the button!  Congrats on those Chase cards I really want a CSP but I'm now over 5/24 so I will have to wait until they invite me...how long in between the CSP and CSR did you apply?

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

What was your starting limit and how much of a CLI did you get at 90 days?

I applied for the CSP on 12/31/16.....applied for the Discover first and got 1500 and wasn't the happiest so applied for the CSP about 5 mins after and got an instant approval of 12K.

I applied for the CSR on 3/10/16 in branch to get the 100K sign up bonus. I got an instant approval in branch for 13K. At the time I was 4/24 and the CSR now puts me at 5/24. I don't have a need for a lot of credit cards but I like the bonuses and perks like most do.

Thanks.

Re: Discover auto 90 day CLI question

Disco approved for $5400 12/1(ish), requested a CLI mid March, instand approval for $2700 increase.

Interesting this Chase business...while I wait, I've set myself to ask for another Disco CLI beginning of May...

Good luck and let us know how it goes!
