Discover card recon success for higher CLI

I applied for a Discover card.  I got the wait 5-7 days message.  This morning, I got a call from them.  They basically wanted to ask questions to verify me and whatnot.

In the end, she offered me $1,500 limit.  I asked her what are the chances of getting a higher limit.  She said that if I make ontime payments for the first three months, then they review it for an increase.

What are my chances of calling the recon line now and getting the initial limit increased?  Or should I wait 3 months?  If I wait three months, how much of an increase can I ask for?

Re: Discover card recon success for higher CLI

You can always try calling now. Some people were able to get their CL increased, but most were not.

If you wait for 3 months, your chances of a CLI will depend on your overall credit history, and your account with them. No CLI is guaranteed.

Do you need it now? If yes, call them. If not, wait the three monts and call them before they call you so yu can have a chance to discuss the size of any CLI being offered. If you wait for them to do it, then you are forced to call and request a recon.

Re: Discover card recon success for higher CLI

I called the recon number listed in the backdoor thread.  She said that the limit offered to me is what it is.  She said that I need to wait three months before evaluation.

I will just do that.  Now I am wondering how much money I should spend on it to be reconsidered.

Just use your card as normal since Discover does tend to favor usage - there is no set formula.  Little usage; however, will definitely not produce favorable CLI results.

Congrats Smiley Happy

As stated they like to see usage on their cards so just use it as you normally would and PIF every month.

Yep, same here.  I was instantly approved yesterday for $3000 with an EQ of 743.  Called this morning and was told the same thing as you.  The card does have some nice rewards so I won't have any problem putting it to good use.
