Of interest, I use a large grocery store so at check out we told the casher we were going to have a payment contest. The cashier was cool with it so we did. The contactless came in first with an Apple Smart Phone next then a slide the card next was the chip and last but certainly not least was the check writer. Will not say any more as it was interesting. Some folks who were not in the modern loop were blown away by the Smart Phone and contactless card.
I feel like it depends to some extent on the store. Mobile wallets are definitely faster at 7-Eleven, for instance, since I'm pretty much always having my loyalty barcode scanned from my phone anyway. It also helps that cashiers don't need to push anything on their end to enable the contactless reader (unlike a fair number of other places that have insert/swipe enabled but require them to push something for contactless).
Also, speaking of chip sometimes being almost as fast as tap, I think we'll see most if not all stores implement Visa's Quick Chip eventually. Whether that'll cause people not to adopt contactless as quickly (or at all) is the question.

Darn it! I just got a new NHL Penguins card in November. If only I had waited!
Are the contactless ones thicker at all?
It's not thicker, and you can always order a new one online. Also, the numbers on the back are more directly printed on to the card instead of being a little sticker with all the information on it. it's more matte looking than glossy looking now, which I think is a nice touch.
Ugh, I was happy with my Discover wolf card... now I'm looking at all the designs again before I request a new contactlass card....

^^^Haha, I looked through them all too and stuck with the color I had. I like the wolf, I feel like it’s telling you to “DISCOVER!” In a mildly threatening manner 😂
I went with something new since I kept the wolf active and can swap it out when bored. So far the only contactless terminals I've found are my gas pumps so I won't be using my Discover contactless this quarter (CF, woot!). I really need to look around more for these terminals. I don't think my grocery store has them.... but I could be oblivious.

I do like Apple Pay's somewhat seemeless design, and only needing thumb scan. Unfortunately it's all Greek around along with mobile wallets in general, and when I'm actually in a bigger City that accepts it. I never think of it.
The only problem I've ever encountered was when my thumbprint wasn't scanning due to severe weather damage. Though not the fault of Apple by any means, in my line of work the tips of my fingers often get worn down.
The quickness is definitely dependant upon the specific store. Honestly i wish they would go strictly contactless, seems the easiest when you consider how often the chip malfunctions. Not to mention how long someone stands there staring at the machines while it's telling them to remove the card. lol
Since contactless isn't a big thing here, i'll just wait for Discover to send replacements whenever they get around to it In no hurry.
Heck i still haven't gotten a contactless CSP from Chase yet!
