Are you sure you are not confusing CL with CLI?
In any case, they only gave me a $1000 CL, and with it I have made hundreds of dollars in rewards in just a year. So, I don't know what your problem is. It's not the size, it's how you use it...
No sir. Size most definitely matters. Gives you more leeway.
On contaire! Smaller sizes can demand more, EVERYWHERE! And people are very accommodating. On the other hand, Big sizes soon find themselves with "Nor here, buddy! You have enough as it. If you decrease it, you can come back and ask again." I wouldn't like that, that's why I know how to optimize small... it's an art. And the rewards keep coming and coming....
Sufficient to discover....Discover!

That is what we are discussing. My small Discover limit and how little it interferes in my other credit applications, because other banks don't mind such small CL, and yet I can get tons of rewards from it. Hello? Have you been paying attention?

How much was your original CL before the increase? The $4,003 seems like a very odd number. I have seen other companies as they are in the process of "updating" their systems late in the evening show a completely messed up number on the available credit. So if that was the case, it is possible that the number was inacurate based on current limit showing, plus the increase.
Just a thought.
My original limit was $1,500. The card is pretty inactive other then a few dollars here and there to keep it active since it my oldest card

My lowest cards is the capital one cards at $500 and $759 but that playstation card is used only on psn and my cellphone bill and my NFL at $500

My BOA card is also quite bigger than my Discover, yet it's easier to make a lot more reward money from my little $1000 Discover CL. Isn't that what counts? Frankly I never cared for big CL I don't really need. If I can work well their rewards system, that's what is important to me. I can work Discover like a charm.
p.s. And if you read your original post you do have a confusing between CL and CLI. Discover didn't decrease anything, you were ,or still are, confused.

You should use it if your spend is in one of the Discover catagories. Why would you earn less cashback just because it has a lower CL? You're hurting yourself far more than you're hurting Discover.
I couldn't be confused, because I am not the one with the documents. I just don't know.
You say your original CL was $ 1500 and then got informed it was now $ 4000 and then got an email saying it was $ 2500. Are you sure that what the email says was not that the CLI you received was fro $ 2500? Instead of your CL is $ 2500 ?

Most people like a big thing...if for nothing else than to brag about it. Give me a big limit ANYDAY. I'd be in heaven!

The problem here is that you are referring to issues you may be looking to avoid with your available credit as it relates to your income. A larger limit on Discover may impede other approvals for you, but that's not the case for everyone. Credit is NOT a one size fits all type of thing. A more common impediment to future approvals would be a $1000 CL because in order to avoid extremely high utilization on that card would require multiple payments every month or micromanaging payments.
My smaller limit cards never get used because in order to use them I would have to push the ultilazation on them up so high and I don't want high util on a single card hurting my scores. I don't want to have to make multiple payments or worry that I pay in full on the correct day before reporting. I don't want to have to worry about too much optimization before an app. It's just not enough wiggle room for many people to work with.
If it works for you that's great and we should each work what works for us, but I see no reason for you to get snippy with racer over it. He wants a higher limit because that's what works better for him. Lower limits may very well work better for you. We are each on our own path.
