But the Discover site will not let you make a payment while one is already processing, nor will it allow you to make a payment within x days of a previous payment. Whenever possible, I try to push payments from another account (preferably my Discover checking because I get 10¢ per bill payment). That gets around the pending/processing payment issue, but of course it's not same day, so you have to make sure the payment will hit by the statement date.
Just a hint, if instead of paying the entire $50, you pay $48.01, then on cutting the bill Discover will issue you a $1.99 small balance credit, and your statement will still report a $0 balance. I do this every month on four Discover cards, get $95.52 for free every year. Plus $4.80 in cashback for scheduling the payments from my Discover checking account.
Chris.
This is incorrect, well kind of. Discover will let you make payments on consecutive days, but they warn that if you make a payment with 3 days of another payment, they MAY not apply it to your AVAILABLE balance for up to 8 days. It does apply to your account balance however.
Despite the warnings, they have always updated my available balance in the normail timeframe, even if I pay on consecutive days. I guess it all depends.

Is it possible? Online, it doesn't allow me to schedule payment after the due date? Can I do it from discover's side, or do I need to push from bank's account? (would prefer from discover side). And will the statement cut with the 0 balance if I make a payment before then?
The reps were confusing and wanted to clarify here as well.
I understand what you want to do I'm sorry that I can't help you, but from my experience the only bank that lets me do that is Chase (I make multiple payments with Chase a month) I try doing it with Discover if I recall correctly and it would not allow me to

Chris.
This is very interesting information. Thank you.
Thanks guys for the inputs! So, yes it seems possible to push from the checking account, but I was mainly interested to see if it's possible to pull from discover during those 5 or so days between payment due and statement cut.
So, after talking to another unhelpful rep I ended talking to a supervisor and here's the lowdown. After the payment due date, one may no longer pay online. Have to call in to schedule a payment. And the only possible date is the last day of the billing cycle. So that answer to part a.
And it will post before the statement is cut later that day, so should reflect $0 when the statement is cut.
Chris: very interesting abput the $1.99! Pretty cool!

Guess they didn't put in code to check for abuse! If you ever need a manual review, I wouldn't be surprised if they would comment (although unlikely to see you are also doing it on three other cards!)
I pay my bill before the due date on the 13th. Then, I pay in full on the 18th the day before my statement cuts on the 19th. I pay from the discover app. It always go through and post before the statement cut. You just have to make the payment before the cutoff of 11pm EST.
You can make payments after the due date (I do it every month) but you have to wait for the due to pass before it will allow you to make them. I make weekly payments to pay off any purchases that week, so the statement is always 0.

thanks for the confirmation cclee. It might be helpful to others to show how you were able to do it - online, over the phone, app, etc. and can you select any day or just the same day?
for me, when I try to see if I can pay, it says I already have a scheduled payment for the full balance, so wouldn't let me schedule another payment. Since I don't want to f- up this one, I guess I'll need to wait for the next cycle to see how it's possible to make a payment after the payment due date and what options it gives online.
