Hi, yawn, I think you're planning on doing this, but just in case, be sure to first let the CU card report, and see what happens to your scores. Since this is your first card, you might not even see a score drop. Whether you do or not, you should see score improvements in October and January (3- and 6-month birthdays.)
At any rate, the better your scores when you app for subsequent cards, the better a deal you'll get. They don't all monitor your reports for continued improvement, so they might not see your scores going up and up.
Good long-term goal: 1 CU card, 2-3 quality bank cards, 1 store card, plus your existing loans.
Store cards don't count as store cards if they are also MC's or Visas. So Home Depot orange card = store card; Home Depot MC = bank card. Check around on the boards for store card discussions, and find one whose rewards really work for you. For instance, I like my Home Depot card, but its only benefit that I've found is the 0% for big purchases. I'm a PIF'er, and I freak out when there's a balance, even at 0%, so I'm having a hard time using the rewards. But it's a Citi card with a nice CL, so I'm happy.
If I were to get another store card, I'd be all over a Nordstrom's card, but the nearest store is 250 miles away, so there's not much point.
