Do any CC's automatically deny you if you have a BK?

Do any credit cards(regular or store) automatically disqualify you if you have a bankruptcy on your record irregardless of whether you have a good credit score or not? Trust me, I'm not planning on going on a wild application spree or anything!! I'm just curious as to whether some may deny me so I can avoid the waste of time applying down the road. Thanks!

Yes, some will deny you. Go to the CC Forum and check out the sticky about BK friendly cards.

yes. BofA and Chase for sure.  What are your scores and how old is the BK?

no look at bk thread bc i have a kohls card which is chase backed. and i have a bk from 04 but keep in mind alot of companies blacklist like amex so if you owe them most times you will be denied..i dont think citi is bk friendly or at least not in my experience but i included them iib.

Actually Chase will approve you on recon if you had a BK. I just got approved though by BK comes off the reports in October so they may have made an exception. I do know that AMEX will auto deny you if you have a BK.

just depends on chase card kohls was auto approval no recon but some of the visa or mc branded, lots of people have been getting approved thru recon for them

The key here is to escalate to supervisors if you aren't approved. Some companies just will not touch you if you have a BK, but others will--sometimes with some prodding.

Here's the way it went for me with a 7 year old BK7 and all scores 674-682.

Amex NO

Citi YES

Chase Yes

BOA Don't even think about it.


I did not recon Amex and I got the Citi and Chase without needing to do recon. I reapplied for Amex last month with a 717 EX score and 1% utilization. Denied and denied again on recon. Most frustrating phone call I ever made in my life. Freaking robot did the recon on me. Supervisor was even worse. Dave I don't think I can do that.

My BK is 8.6 years old and I can't answer the three deadly questions Chase asks. I did call them and was told to apply anyway and they would call me about the BK.  It still scares me.  I think  maybe store cards are easier???

I'm surprised at Citi doing it.

Wamu has been great along with Cap One and CCCU.

PS  Small Fry--how many ccs did you have at the time and did Chase give you decent CL?

My scores are 698--704--727

Chase gave me 5K last June. I think I had a 5K Cap One 15K Penfed and a 7.5K Juniper SM showing at the time. I did include Chase in a 2000 BK7.
