Do cards report if you dont use them?

Hi I am rebuilding post ch.7 so basically I'm taking whatever card I can get.  I got a few store cards I prob wont use often if at all. Will the cards report to the credit with a $0 balance and no activty or does there have to eb at least $1 activty for it to report and raise your score.

Yes, they will report even if you don't use them.  Also, stop trying to get any card you qualify for.  It is a bad strategy. Do the rebuilding right this second time around...

also, i suggest signing up on creditkarma. it has a 'last reported' date column for all your cards. it's free and updates weekly. just don't mind the fako score, everything else is quite helpful - utilization/s, opened dates, correct number of inquiries for both TU and EQ, payment histories, etc.

Re: Do cards report if you dont use them?

As someone who is also re-building, take my advice and don't go crazy with the SCT (shopping cart trick) like I did.  I accepted several that I am ok with but I accepted two offers without knowing the approved limits, because they don't tell you until you accept.  Well, the limits were an insulting $150 that I never would have accepted had I known. I called the next day to cancel the accounts and figured that was it.  NOPE. Both of those accounts, which were open for less than 24 hours and never used, are reporting to all 3 bureaus.  I even disputed them with EXP, just to see if I could get them removed and that did not work.

My closing them turned out to really be a bigger mistake than if I'd just let them stay open, age, use them every so often and build up a payment history.  Those accts, plus all the other new accts I've opened in the last year,  brought down my AAOA a good bit. Luckily, I have a few other old accts so it's not awful at 4-6 years but it was closer to 20 before that.

Re: Do cards report if you dont use them?

Thanks for the advice.  I managed to get a $300 Kohls Which i would use.   Its the $750 Lord and taylor and the $1200 Firestone I probably never would use but after getting the kohls I figured Cap1 giving store cards away and went on an app frenzy.  and for the firestone I figured hell it will bring the utilization down. so as long as the cards report and I dont have to use them I will be happy

don't app for utilization padding. and if you're coming out of BK7 and already have utizarion issues maybe you need to take a step back and evaluate your true finances vs spend. TBH credit cards are not for everyone. i know my brother couldn't handle it so i would never push one on him. just because you CAN get one doesn't mean you SHOULD.

I have 2 Capital one's $300 each and a credit one $450.  I keep utilization at 9% but was looking for padding because I find it annoying anytime i spend $100 bucks I got to pay it the next day

Re: Do cards report if you dont use them?

it would be the same thing. utilization reports once a month not daily. you need to wait until you can get a CLI on those. due to the lower limits you're almost forced to pay a few times a month anyway. just make one of those payments fall right before statement cut.

+1 that last reported date comes in handy since I have a few comenity cards I got but never used and a firestone card...neither has updated since the original reported date...and the ones I do use everyonce in a while...once the balance reports as zero..those don't update monthly in my reports either.
