Example, you have 3 cards that have LOCs totaling $3000. Balances total $1500. so that's 50%.  Keep the same balance but with an extra card with a limit of $1k.  That should make your utilization about 37% correct?

No.

$3000 + ( 3 * 1000) = $6000 CL.

($1500 / $6000 ) =   25 %   utilization

Pretty sure they meant $3000 + $1000 = $4000.

($1500/$4000) = 37.5%

I think OP meant one extra card with $1000 CL.

He means total CL with the 3 cards combined is $3000. Example: 3 cards with $1000 CL each.

AMEX: $25,000, CSR: $10,000, Chase Priority Club: $1,500, Freedom: $5000, Freedom Unlimited: $1000, Discover: $21,000, BoA $11,000, WF Cash Wise: $5000

I think I misread it.

$3000 +  1000  = $4000 CL.

($1500 / $4000 ) =   37.5%   utilization
