Do scores matter when trying to PC?

Helping a friend PC some of his cards. BofA, Cap1, Chase.

Does fico score matter when trying to PC? He just PIF these cards. Or is it more of an eligibility by that bank's internal system?

I don't think it's a direct factor ~ at least I'm not aware of creditors pulling a report & score when for a PC request.

However your FICO score will indirectly effect the PC, at least if the account is late, maxed, etc.. it will drag your score down.

Lenders have their own criteria for PCing, so YMMV.

They probably have some influence but I think internal metrics and how you have handled that particular account is more of a factor.

Re: Do scores matter when trying to PC?

Thanks for both of your replies. It's kind of what I was thining. I couldn't really find anything as I searched the forums.

While he haven't been late, or gone over the limits (no baddies on his reports). These cards have been sitting at 75, and all the way up to 95% utilization for some time now... Although he did just PIF, it is not normally PIF as he used to always carry balances.

His internal score with these banks may be lower because of this 'maxed out' situation, which has therefore also lowered his FICO score quite a bit.

In fact, BofA at some point added an AF on the card which he's hoping to also have removed. Trying to PC from the regular platinum to the better balance rewards. I wonder if they will see this as a 'good' sign, since it gives him extra incentive to pay more than the minimum, which he wasn't really doing until this recent PIF.

Re: Do scores matter when trying to PC?

This is an interesting question.  From my experience with Chase the internal score could very well be a factor. My Freedom is not eligible for anything ( upgrade to a siggy, lower APR or PC to another card after 15 months).  I am waiting for an explanation from the executive office as regular customer service is as clueless as me. Fico certainly does not matter for Chase as my score is 800+ and the card is not eligible for anything after 15 months.  Let's see what Chase will come up with as a reason. I will be ready to work on whatever needs to be improved..just need to know what Chase does not like. I sent an email 3 days ago and no reply yet Smiley Sad

Thanks for the information and reminder, I remember seeing your post regarding your Chase Freedom. I'm curious to see what explanation the EO gives you as well. I'll keep an eye on it.

I'll be sure to update as my firend does each of his PC and see what the outcomes are.

Keep in mind that creditors aren't all identical.  Some handle a "PC" by opening a new TL and closing out the old , for example.

Re: Do scores matter when trying to PC?

when I recently tried to PC, they put me on hold, and said I was declinded due to my CR.  It was a soft pull (no alert on my report, 4 days later) but I was still shocked, as I have great credit.  I think it's multiple recent inquiries. I think all companies are different though

NCFU Flagship(80k) DC Elite (40k) Cash Sapphire Preferred(38k) DC Premier (30k) NFCU CashRewards (25k) USAA Amex (22k) USAA MasterCard (16k) Barclay Arrival+ Elite (15k) Nordstrom (15k) BofA Rewards (12.5k) 4 Amices (50k)

Thanks for sharing Todd. May I ask which bank/card this was that you were trying to PC? This is quite interesting.

Good call, I'll keep this in mind and make sure that it's the same TL, same account opening date, etc. Thanks!
